In the Middle East, desert was common and water was gold. Water symbolizes God’s saving grace. Ezekiel described the Temple as a source of deepening waters and fertile abundance, manifesting blessings conferred on the land by YHWH. In a world of parched deserts, water signifies great blessings, just as dryness and drought signify curses. What a wonderful image for baptism! How often do we think of our baptisms? If possible consider visiting the church where you were baptized to pray there or pen a note of appreciation to your godparents (if deceased give thanks for them).
