FERC transmission oversight 


The Electricity Law Initiative recently filed comments in a FERC proceeding about transmission rates and planning processes. The comments, prepared by ELI Director Ari Peskoe and Staff Attorney Hannah Oakes Dobie, detail how the current regulatory construct is not protecting consumers from exorbitant rates and suggest potential reforms.

Expanding flood insurance coverage 


In March, the House Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance held a hearing on how to encourage greater flood insurance coverage nationwide. EELP staff attorney Hannah Perls submitted a statement for the record urging Congress to expand affordable flood insurance options for low- and moderate-income households while mitigating current and future flood risks.

BLM energy leases 

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) continues to plan for upcoming energy leases, including a solar auction on April 27. But first, BLM must comply with the Inflation Reduction Act’s new energy leasing requirements. A report by EELP Research Assistant Sarah Hart ’24 describes how the energy leases work and discusses their potential impacts.
