A message from our CEO

As we reflect on the past 20 years, we are reminded of the challenges we have faced, the successes we have achieved, and the lessons we have learned. We have grown and evolved as an organization, adapting to changes in the world and responding to the needs of our community.

Throughout our journey, we have remained committed to our mission, which is to activate and sustain the emergence of empowered citizenship participation, through which all can attain good governance, transparency, accountability,  sustainable development, and a life of dignity. Our achievements would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and partners. We are truly grateful for their tireless efforts in helping us to reach our goals.

As we defend the future of our nation, we are hopeful that a credible leader emerges. We remain committed to our mission and are determined to continue making a positive impact in our community and beyond.

We look forward to continuing to work together to achieve our shared goals.

A look at some major milestones we have achieved: We pioneered procurement monitoring in Nigeria

PPDC pioneered procurement and contract monitoring activities in Nigeria using the FOI Act as a tool to source relevant procurement data from public institutions and continues to do so. To minimize the challenges of citizens’ access to procurement data, the Budeshi platform was created. It serves as a hub for citizens to access procurement data in digital and easy-to-use formats. It has grown to consist of over 10,000 datasets. See the full case study, click here

We advocated for the adoption of Open Contracting Standards across Nigeria

We successfully advocated for the adoption of the Open Contracting Data Standards (OCDS) and currently lead the charge in demanding its full implementation in states. Over 10 states have signed up for the partnership through our consistently targeted approach.

Over the years, we have monitored over 300 projects. Our goal for monitoring is to ensure that projects are functional for citizens and we have achieved project fixes in various states. One success story from this project is St Anthony School, Azia in Ihiala South LGA of Anambra State. The project was contracted for N35 million and was abandoned by its contractors until we advocated for the intervention of relevant stakeholders. Click this link to follow the story.

Breaking the Cycle of Education Inequality: PPDCs Efforts in Improving Education in Nigeria

An estimated 10.5 million children in Nigeria were out of school, which posed a significant challenge to the nation's development. To address this issue, the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) partnered with Luminate to visit Kwa Primary School in Mubi LGA in 2021. PPDC's findings from the visit were noteworthy and potentially impactful.
