Science Olympiad Club
Reservoir's Science Olympiad team members participate in multi-event competitions that include paper tests, model building and hybrid contests. Topics covered include life sciences, physics, chemistry, engineering, forensics, astronomy, and coding.
On Saturday, December 3. 2022, Reservoir Science Olympiad had three teams participate virtually in the Dick Smith Memorial Invitational hosted by Pennsylvania Science Olympiad and attended by 76 teams from around the nation. Our students earned numerous top ten medals. They had an equally great performance at the Fairfax Invitational on Saturday, January 7, 2023. The competition was strong with 56 teams participating, at least 6 of which have competed at the National Science Olympiad in the last 5 years. Our teams placed 9th and 17th with an overall ranking of 8th.
Saturday morning, February 4 2023, twenty-seven brave Gators faced frigid temperatures to depart at 4am for a Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament at Princeton. This was easily the most challenging competition that our team will face this season. Our teams placed 20th and 40th out of 56 teams from the Northeastern US. We celebrated multiple top ten finishes and two almost top ten finishes! Most importantly, our team learned valuable lessons for the upcoming Regionals at the end of March and States in mid-April.
The team will be traveling to UMD on Saturday, March 11, 2023 for our last invitational of the season. On Saturday, March 25, 2023, Eastern Maryland Regionals will be held at Oakland Mills High School. The team is hoping to perform well enough at Regionals to advance to The Maryland State Competition on April, 22, 2023 at the Johns Hopkins University.
