Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

Last week the Wealthy Elementary fourth and fifth grade Choir sang at the EGR High School basketball game and did a wonderful job! They performed the National Anthem and sang beautifully for the crowd. Thank you to Ms. Pugia and our choir for this fantastic performance.

Also, thank you for treating our teachers and staff extra special last week for an early Appreciation Week. They are so grateful for the show of support; especially during these gray, wintry days. You and the students truly demonstrated that kindness is magic at Wealthy Elementary!

Spring Conferences
Conferences will be held this Thursday, March 9 and next Tuesday, March 14.  All conferences have been scheduled.  If you have any questions on the time of your conferences, please contact the classroom teacher or Mrs. Allchin at 616.235.7550 or dallchin@egrps.org  with questions.  We look forward to discussing your child(ren)’s growth thus far this school year!

Also, thank you to the PTO and families who signed up to bring in items for staff lunches on conference days this week and next. We have a few more spots available. Staff are thankful to be so well fed on these longer days!

PTO Scholastic Book Fair
Next week is our PTO Scholastic Book Fair! This coming Sunday, March 12, we will kick-off our Fair with games led by our Student Leadership Team and popcorn from the PTO. The Book Fair will be open throughout the week including some evening hours on Wednesday until 6:00 p.m. and it closes on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. Every class will have an opportunity to visit the Fair during regular library times. Please check the Wealthy Elementary Calendar found here for specific hours and the book fair website here. Thank you to our PTO Executive Board for organizing this event as well as all our parents who are helping with set-up, clean-up, and popping corn!

March is Reading Month
March is one of the most exciting months in an elementary school due to the celebration of March is Reading Month! Throughout the next five weeks we look forward to promoting one of our favorite activities - reading! The PTO will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair March 12-16. Listed below are also some Spirit Days to celebrate the month of March.

  • Friday, March 10- Be a Good Sport and Read (dress as your favorite sports team or East colors)

  • Friday, March 17- Camp Out with a Good Book (bring a flashlight and wear pajamas)

  • Friday, March 24- Reading Gives You a Bright Future (dress in bright colors)

In addition to our school-wide activities, teachers will host activities unique to their classroom. Thank you to our PTO for providing us the opportunity to participate in March Book Madness again this year. All classrooms will read picture books from March Book Madness 2023 and vote on their favorite titles. We look forward to a great month of celebrations!

With Basketball March Madness just around the corner, March Book Madness is already underway, thanks to a grant this past fall of more than $10,000 from the Foundation (thanks to our donors, the Foundation began sponsoring March Book Madness in 2017). Breton Downs kicked off March Book Madness Thursday morning with a packed gym full of students cheering enthusiastically as this year’s bracket of 16 picture books was announced (Lakeside and Wealthy also had March Book Madness kickoffs last week). Students will vote on the books as the month goes along. A champion picture book will be crowned in March, along with champions in categories for upper grades. “It’s amazing to see how excited the kids are about the books,” says Elementary Learning Commons Coordinator Sarah Webber, whose position was also funded by Foundation donors.

Here’s a video of selection Thursday.
