Vulnerability: Question Box Service
Led By Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh

Our mission at First Parish Church in Taunton is to
Inspire, Connect, and Serve

Each year, we have two services wherein all are invited to ask questions during the service, and where the sermon truly belongs to everyone. This Sunday, our lead minister, Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh will answer as many questions as possible that are given to her during worship. Be sure to join us this week for this congregational favorite and enjoy an opportunity to check out any assumptions, concerns, or questions for your new minister who promises to be transparently honest with you! We'll also continue to enjoy the awesome music selections of our new Music Director too, for whom you're welcome to pose a question as well.  See below for the new Music Corner with Greg!
This Sunday in Youth Faith Formation

This week our Chalice Children and Jr. Youth groups will each being to explore our new theme of  Vulnerability through the lens of Asking for Help. Each group will focus on the times when life asks us to be vulnerable because we need help, feel worried, or can’t do something on our own. In these moments, we must open ourselves up to ask the question, Can you help me? Each group will also make worry stones to take home and be used as a way to help them in the process of asking for help, or any other time a worry comes up.

Sr. Youth will be exploring the fifth Taking Flight Workshop: Puberty and Personal Concerns - Youth will have an opportunity to talk about personal questions and concerns regarding their own growth and development. The session explores accurate information, clears up myths, and provides answers to youths' questions. In the process, youth become aware of diverse body types, sizes, behaviors, and rates of physical, emotional, and social development.

This Week in Adult Faith Formation

This week our Adult Faith Formation Roots Class explored James Luther Adams, and his concept of A Faith for the Free: A Radical Redefinition of Faith and God. We explored what happens if we redefine the word “God” as “the principle or reality without which life would lose its meaning,” what that means to each of us and if this understanding seems like a linguistic sleight of hand, or is an accurate and fair description of a person’s “God”? This week Take it Home is to write a brief (two-line) reflection on what we each find sacred, sovereign, and/or reliable.
Music Corner With Greg
We will be exploring the theme of vulnerability through our monthly opening song “Brave” by Sara Barellies. She wrote this song for a friend who was struggling with the decision to come out. Speaking out and standing up for what is right certainly takes bravery and leaves one vulnerable at the same time.
Our closing song “Help” written by John Lennon, explores vulnerability in a different way. He related years later that he wrote it from a state of depression.
The YouTube links below have videos with lyrics of the songs we will be singing. Check them out if you’re so inclined!
Opening Song - "Brave"
Middle Song - "Unwritten"
Closing Song - "Help"
This Sunday After Service

First Friday Night Social Justice Film Discussions
Friday, March 3rd at 6PM

Led by your lead minister, Rev. Michelle, we will watch and discuss part 2 of the PBS documentary Race: The Power of an Illusion. Those attending will have a deeper grasp of the history of racism in the United States context in preparation for the offering our Director of Faith Formation, April, will lead in May to help us further live into our new 8th Principle. The final meeting is on Friday, Apr. 7th.  The overall meeting time is anticipated to be 6-8PM in the minister's office or sanctuary commons, depending on the size of the group. Snacks will be provided and all are welcome.

Soul Matters Spring Session
Our Spring Soul Matters Adult Faith Formation group is just around the corner (Monday Nights 6-8 pm March 6 - May 1), and all are welcome to join us! For those unfamiliar, our Soul Matters group is a wonderful way to meet folks from church and deepen relationships while participating in a spiritual practice that takes us beyond the question of “What do you think?” and invites us into the deeper one of “Where are you willing to let your faith take you?” If you have any questions or are interested in joining, please reach out to the group facilitator April Rosario at dre@firstparishtaunton.com

All Ages Game Night and Potluck
Saturday, March 11th 4 PM

Come join us for a food and fun filled night!   This is an all-ages game night and a chance to share a meal with friends.  Bring your favorite game to play or try one of ours.  We will play games starting at 4 PM and break for dinner a little later.  After dinner you can either stay and play some more or go home early to rest up for services on Sunday!  Please let Emily or Bonnie know if you are going to attend and if you want to participate in the potluck.  Email either at ptzopy@gmail.com or office@firstparishtaunton.org.
We are so excited to be able to offer our lawn for this amazing event! As First Parish Church in Taunton is an officially designated Welcoming Congregation, we are thrilled to be able to live out our Unitarian Universalist values and principles and grow our relationships with The South Coast LGBTQ+ Network through this event! South Coast LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and allies are invited and welcome to join us on March 18 from 11 am - 2 pm for a day of great activities, entertainment, information, and celebration! If you'd like to volunteer for this event rather than only attending, please be sure to register for and attend the required training on Thursday, March 9th, from 5:30-6:30PM at FPC!
