The ACA won a Governor's Award for best art organization. Chris McKeel and Karen Santos played a major role in writing the nomination. Congratulations!

Wildlife photographer Melinda Welker will be speaking at the next general meeting, March 13 at 6:30.

Those of us who knew and loved Ellene Southerland greatly appreciated the beautiful tribute submitted by Lindy Crandall in the last newsletter. We would like to honor Ellene's memory and her contributions to the AAG by establishing a one or possibly two time award in her memory to be given at the Member Show. The criteria for the award will be determined by the board and/or the Member Show committee. Melinda Welker: Inspiring Conservation through Art
Melinda is a wildlife and nature photographer with a passion for photographing birds. When Melinda retired to South Carolina, she took up digital cameras and journeyed into wildlife photography where she discovered the wonder of birds. She will talk about photographing birds in Aiken area locations.
In 2018, Melinda was juried into the National Association of Women Artist, headquartered in New York, where she has the opportunity to display her art nationally, lately in New York City and at the Art Club of Washington, D.C. Her photos have been published in newspapers, magazines and books and have been recognized with awards.
Melinda is a founding member of the National Association of Women Artist SC Chapter, a member of the Aiken Artists Guild and the Aiken Center for the Arts. She is also a member of the Midlands Chapter of the Carolinas’ Nature Photography Association, where like-minded North and South Carolina photographers share their love of outdoor photography. THE MEMBER SHOW, MAY 18-JUNE 22, 2023
All AAG members are encouraged to enter up to two pieces of their work to the Member Show. At least one of your pieces and possibly two will be hung in this show.
Important Dates
April 1: Your membership dues must be current.
April 15: You must be registered to participate in the show. You can do this through the AAG website now through April 15.
May 12: Drop-off date from 12 noon to 6:45 pm in the main gallery at the ACA.
May 18: Reception 6 -8.
If you know what you are going to submit for this show, please sent a photo to Kayla Hitchcock (kaylahitchcock@aikencenterforthearts.org) by March 22. Kayla needs photos of members’ work to be included in the show for marketing purposes. This is optional.
The award winning artist Carolyn Bohn and members of her studio will be showing their art at the Aiken Artist Guild Gallery through March 23.
The show will consist largely of pastels. The range of subjects will demonstrate diversity and the capacity of a group of individual artists to thrive in a supportive environment. The artists who will be showing with Carolyn include Brian Anderson, Carolyn Bohn, Lucy Bureau, Barbara Dick, Beth Everett, Anne Hunter, Lise Obelenus, Laurie Neely, Linda Purdy and Price Story.
