We invite children and their caregivers to join us for our weekly storytime programs! Preschool Storytime meets Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM and appeals most to children ages 2-5. We check on our puppet friend, Hedgie, read books and sing songs.
The County Library offers a weekly School-Ager Story Time every Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM. School-aged kids, approximately ages 5-10, are invited to join us for longer read-alouds, great nonfiction titles, and even chapter book recommendations! This program will appeal to homeschoolers, preschool storytime graduates, and public school friends on holiday breaks.
Books & Babies meets Thursday mornings at 10:30 AM and is designed to engage infants 24 months and younger with their caregivers. At Books and Babies we read one short book, sing many songs, recite nursery rhymes, and play with puppets. At all our storytimes we make some noise and move around!

All children and their families are welcome at our storytime programs.  Call the library at (540) 984-8200 if you have any questions.

“Aunt E and Classmates,” Labeled Photographs, 2 of 2, Moses Getz Collection, Truban Archives, Shenandoah County Library, Edinburg, Virginia.

Highlights from the Truban Archives

This photograph shows Edythe Getz (later Hepner) and a group of her classmates, most likely from Mt. Jackson High School, in downtown Mt. Jackson sometime around 1920.

Edythe was born February 7, 1904 in Shenandoah County’s Lee District, near Solomon’s Lutheran Church and the Forestville community. Her parents were Moses Getz and Elizabeth Pence Getz. While it is uncertain where she attended primary school, it appears her family was able to send her to attend High School in Mt. Jackson. At the time, students were required to pay to attend school beyond Grade 7 and would have needed to either board or travel daily to one of the town high schools were these opportunities were provided. She would have graduated from High School around 1922.

This photograph was taken around the time she graduated along Main Street in Mt. Jackson. Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church is visible in the background.

After graduating, Edythe lived with her family on their farm until she married Wynne Earl Hepner on June 8, 1935. They then lived in Washington DC where he worked as a Police Officer. She died in 1991 and is buried at Solomons Lutheran Church.

We are wrapping up our Annual Fund Drive but there's still time to contribute! The funds we bring in through this drive help support our Community Libraries, enhance our technology services, and provide a balanced collection of resources for all ages.

You can send your donation by mail to 514 Stoney Creek Blvd. Edinburg, VA 22824. You can also contribute online, no need to use a stamp!
