How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God?

— JOHN 5:44
Scripture Readings
The desire for praise and recognition from others is often rooted in pride. The antidote to pride is humility. Today, look up the “Litany of Humility.” Pray it slowly, pausing to reflect on each stanza’s meaning and how it applies to your life. Alternatively, seek God’s praise by living out the Gospel message from Ash Wednesday’s Mass about praying and doing good works in secret. You can borrow St. Therese’s practice of offering God ten “hidden gifts” in the form of small acts of self-denial or acts of kindness of which only God is aware.
