Chapter News: March 2023

Dean's Message

The southern Presbyterian Church of my childhood didn’t “do” Lent. I remember that my public
school cafeteria always had fish on Fridays, but that was fine with me. It didn’t seem that
eating fish instead of beef-a-roni was much of a sacrifice. I knew some people “gave up
something for Lent,” and as my denomination became more liturgical in the 70s and 80s I
would sometimes observe a Lenten sacrifice, sort of.

Now I see Lent as a season for growth. How can I serve my choirs and congregation better,
give them what they need to grow spiritually? I should always think that way, but perhaps
during Lent I can do better. I would most likely fail at 40 days of self-denial, but 46 days of
striving to be a better servant - I can do that. May your Lent be meaningful in your life and the
life of those whom you serve.

Annual Clergy/Member Banquet

Friday, April 21 at 6:00 pm.

It has been several years since our last clergy/musician banquet. It has always been well attended, with good fellowship and an inspiring speaker.

The chapter will pick up the check for the clergy, and will keep the cost of members’ meals to $15. We don’t need a commitment yet, but if you think you will be able to attend, or know you will not be able to attend, please email Jacob Furmann at  jacobfuhrman@gmail.com.

Dr. Eileen Guenther, Lecturer in Organ at The George Washington University, and Professor of Church Music at Wesley Theological Seminary will be the guest speaker.
The banquet venue is 6 East State (located at 6 East State St. near Wright Square). It serves as a multipurpose space used for activities at Lutheran Church of the Ascension. Parking is available at Ascension's lot on the corner of State and Drayton on a first come basis, at the parking garage across the street, or on the street.
