Monorail Projects Update

Status of the progress of the Monorail in Santiago City, Dominican Republic.

Santiago de los Caballeros – the second largest city in the country and one of the key topics for the Dominican Republic is the improvement of the mobility. At the moment the development of the public transport system has top priority. One part of the project is the construction of a monorail line, which will connect with the Santiago cable car and six corridors of the bus rapid transit (BTR) system to offer a mobility service to most of the population. The work on the monorail system started in March of 2022 and should be finished in 2025. The 16 km line will run from Cienfuegos in the northwest of the city to Madre y Maestra in the southeast and is planeed with 16 stations. The trains will run at 80km/h with a headway of 90 seconds, and the transport capacity will be 20,000 passengers per direction per hour which results in almost 30% of all trips within the city.

Pictures have been taken of the construction site in the area of the station for the connection of the commercial zone France Santiago.
