THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN FOR THE DUT STATE OF THE UNIVERSITY ADDRESS 2023

Durban University of Technology (DUT) Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu will be delivering the annual State of the University Address (SOUA) 2023 at the Indumiso Campus Hall in Pietermaritzburg on Friday, 10 March 2023 at 16h30.

In his address, Prof Mthembu will highlight DUT’s accomplishments and accolades from the previous year (2022). He will also focus on the current state of affairs in 2023 and outline the future prospects of the university, making reference to the current strategy, the ENVISION2030. This will be the second physical SOUA to be held at DUT since it was established in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, this event was held online due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

DUT IS A FINALIST IN THE LINKEDIN TALENT AWARDS 2022

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has been listed as one of the finalists in the 2022 LinkedIn Talent Awards. The university, nominated in the Talent Insights Pioneer category has been identified as one of the innovative organisations across the LinkedIn community, that is leading with the future of work. The LinkedIn Talent Awards winners will be announced on Thursday, 02 March 2023 at the Microsoft office in Johannesburg.

According to the newly appointed Director: Talent acquisition and Operations under the DUT Human Capital Services (HCS), Ms Lara Boucher the Talent Awards are celebrating LinkedIn customers who have stepped up to redefine the ways in which people work, and celebrate their people and organisations that are leading the future of work.

AUDITING AND TAXATION STUDENTS AWARDED FOR THEIR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The Durban University of Technology, Department of Auditing & Taxation hosted their annual students’ Academic Awards ceremony for top academic achievers on Friday, 24 February 2023 at the DUT Hotel school, Ritson Campus.

These awards form part of the various initiatives by the Auditing and Taxation Department to encourage and motivate students to excel in their academic work. The Academic Awards ceremony is done every year to award top-performing students for all levels of study for their outstanding work and dedication.

GAME ON: DUT VS UCT!

The Department of Information Technology (IT) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in partnership with the leading publisher of social games and interactive content in Africa, Carry 1st, will be hosting the Esports tournament, Tribe Campus Battle between students from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and DUT at the Ritson Campus Exam Hall, on Saturday, 04 March 2023.

Esport is a form of competition using video games, which often involves teams competing against each other in tournaments for a cash prize. Just like traditional sports, top gamers are constantly looking for the top positions in their game of choice.

ZUNGU WANTS TO BECOME THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS STUDENTS

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Student Representative Council (SRC) Sports and Recreation Officer in Pietermaritzburg, Mr Sabatha Zungu (21) is committed to assisting students from the disadvantaged backgrounds.

Zungu is currently completing his third-year in Public Relations and Communications Management. He was born in Hluhluwe, North of KwaZulu-Natal and he grew up in Hammarsdale.

DUT IMPACT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Nomvelo Zulu spoke to Nonhlanhla Nyandeni; Engagement Administrator under the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement (DVC: RIE).

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I am the Engagement Administrator, and I offer support to the Engagement office under the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement (DVC: RIE), DUT staff and students on the engagement administrative activities and issues.”
