March: VULNERABILITY

THIS SUNDAY MARCH 12 | 10AM
LETTING OUR GUARD DOWN

In-person and Online via Zoom

Online: Join us 10 minutes early to chat and connect in Breakout Rooms before the service: https://tinyurl.com/UFPsundayservice

A fear of being vulnerable leads many of us to become well-defended. In our defensiveness, opportunities for authenticity, honesty, and intimacy are lost. What might it be like to allow that we make mistakes and have imperfections and are sometimes unskillful in our words and actions?
If you're joining us via Zoom for service, have a square piece of paper (any colour) and craft supplies at the ready: scissors, pencil, hole punch, glue, tape are just a few ideas, whatever you have available will work just fine.......

Guest Speaker: Rev. Peter Boullata
Service Co-Leader: Jessica Smith
Music: Mosaic Choir, Linda Clark
Tech: Sephira Wildheart, Ben Taylor

Invite your friends

Our services are IN PERSON and online via ZOOM.

We gather ONLINE ONLY when the local PPH COVID-19 and Respiratory Virus Risk Index is at 'VERY HIGH'

We require N95 masks for participants

RELIGIOUS EXPLORATION:

Folks of all ages are welcome to join us for the service this Sunday. Children are welcome to join with their parents, and move around, get up, leave as they need to. You are welcome here, and there will be parts of the service just for you!  Story time for all ages, singing, colouring pages and RE staff available in the foyer to welcome you and to offer a few more choices.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

UPCOMING UFP EVENTS

SAVE the DATE | APRIL 22

Planning for the 2023 Blue Horse Cafe has begun! If you've not yet had the pleasure of attending this event - it's like a coffee house/variety show that will become what we bring to it - including a Bake sale, a Book sale and a Silent Auction!

In March 2020 just before the pandemic hit we raised $3000 dollars for our beloved fellowship.
Please save the date and invite a friend for an evening of fun and joyful community!

We'll need baked goods, books and silent auction items. Bring good books with a note tucked in with your name, so we know who's taking them home, if unsold. For auction items (art, functional items, experiences) include descriptive info, your name and suggested starting bid.

Please reach out to Stephanie Wildheart with any questions stephaniewildheart@outlook.com

SAVE the DATE | APRIL 30

Grounded in Love, Spring edition!
Camp Kawartha Environment Centre 3-5:30pm

Please join us for a healing, renewing and playful outdoor spring experience for all ages! Invite your family, your friends, your neighbours, your new acquaintances. All are welcome.

And exciting news, we have a special guest joining us for the event. Yvette Salinas, executive Director of Unicamp, and her staff will be joining for this community event.

NON-FICTION BOOK CLUB | MARCH

The Universal Christ
by Richard Rohr

Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr shares a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet.

Join us via Zoom:  Thursday 23 at 2pm:  https://tinyurl.com/UFPBookClub

UFP NEWS

Sunday Service Support Teams!

As our in-person services ramp up we are slowly yet cheerfully getting back into our old habits. Welcome Table greeters still wear the ASK ME lapel pin and you can count on a fresh cup of coffee after the service! There are a few more positions we'd like to fill so we're counting on you to step up to help. A number of people have been trained on how to operate the new Lift, but more are needed. Please consider being a lift assistant. It's easy to learn and is such an important role on Sunday, and anytime we're in the building. We're combined Greeting and Ushering to create an integrated and watchful Sunday morning role. Consider signing up to be a Grusher!  Scott Donovan scott.peterborough@gmail.com

UFP Singing Anyone?

Women Ageing Today Group

The Women Ageing Today Group provides a safe space where we, as older women, come together to explore those life issues related to ageing in today’s world from a personal perspective, and provide each other support. Currently we meet virtually but have been discussing the possibility of meeting in person.

As a group, we share the responsibility for leadership, as each person is comfortable. The decision about what to discuss is also made by the group with support given to those who may have a need for conversation on a particular issue. Anyone interested in joining or learning more please contact Hendrika Sheshadri

Group meets 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 1:30pm to 3pm. September to June.

Gift Card Proceeds Benefit our UFP Community!

You are invited to purchase gift cards in the foyer/lobby after the Sunday service. We have a variety of retail, grocery and gas cards available for sale. Cards may also be purchased by contacting Cesca at 705-743-0795 or by email at francescawarriner@gmail.com. The email for e-transfer payments for gift cards is: payforgiftcards@peterboroughunitarian.ca. 47th Elders and Traditional Peoples Gathering: March 10-12

The Elders & Traditional Peoples Gathering is an important annual event hosted by the First Peoples House of Learning and the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies at Trent University.  Centered around a yearly theme, the gathering provides an opportunity to share Indigenous knowledge through a series of workshops and gatherings. It is a time for students and community to come together to listen, learn, and engage with the stories and knowledge that Elders and Traditional People carry. This year the focus is on renewing connections to community, to culture and to traditions for all Indigenous Peoples on Turtle Island.
