Join us for a discussion of the book Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. As a botanist, Robin Wall Kimmerer has been trained to ask questions of nature with the tools of science. As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these lenses of knowledge together to show that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings are we capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learning to give our own gifts in return. There is also a Young Adult version also available for discussion with youth.

Pic of the Week
A look into the life of the church
The Gardening For Life Project festival with Doug Tallamy was a wonderful community event that will hopefully inspire many to change the way that they think about gardening. This event was possible because of our church and we are setting an example by changing the way we landscape our property with native plants. There were many volunteers from our congregation representing different organizations. Here you can see a few of those who welcomed folks to the church table.

Do you have a picture of something that you would like to share with the Congregation? Email it to Lindsay and we can share it as our pic of the week and continue to stay connected with each other.

Notes From The Church Dog
Because somebody has to run this church...
|
|
We really should have taken a before and after photo, but if you know, you know. Our church attic was a MESS, which means I had a blast on Saturday morning with the attic clean-up crew. There was a ridiculous amount of smells, places rodents had clearly made a home at one point, and a ton of nooks and crannies to discover and shove my nose into. The attic clean-up crew (a few of which are not pictured), did an awesome job hauling out "junk", organizing, and sweeping out the attic. It looks so nice and big now. You can even find things without tripping over other things! Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference. Thanks to all who assisted with the effort. Oh and two things...First, Ginny Rostick wants me to tell you that just because we have room up in the attic now, doesn't mean that we can clutter it up. And second, a special shout out goes to Doug Rostick - attic work isn't for the faint of heart - we hope your back feels better soon!
Wishing you all the toys and pets,
Wally
