Principal's Message

Hello McGaugh Sea Lion Families,

Happy March! The wellness theme this month is focused on Growth Mindset–grit and resilience. Simply put, a growth mindset is believing that your brain can grow, and you can learn many new things. You are not born smart; you become smart. A fixed mindset is quite the opposite. It is believing that you cannot learn new things. This idea is so important in a school setting because students are constantly learning new things and they are not always easy things. It is helpful to discuss that just because they might not know something right now, does not mean they won't be able to learn it later once they have practiced it. This month, all elementary wellness counselors are providing resources on growth mindset in the Wellness Spaces. Additionally, our wellness counselor, Tina Heeren will be providing lessons on either growth mindset or problem solving to our classrooms.

Additionally, here are two read-alouds of kindness books you can watch together. We encourage you to have an open discussion about what they think these stories mean and what they learned from it.
