HUD is sponsoring a panel discussion on citizen participation and equitable engagement tied to Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. This is the first in a Disaster Recovery & Fair Housing Series on Equitable Engagement and focuses on peer-to-peer learning via a panel discussion. CDBG-DR grantees and community stakeholders will share their insights on successful citizen engagement and meeting the needs of impacted populations through equitable disaster recovery program design and implementation. HUD staff from the Office of Disaster Recovery and the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity will briefly share the importance of and connections between the two offices' missions. The panel discussion will kick-off a series of upcoming online trainings on utilizing the Citizen Participations and Equitable Engagement (CPEE) Toolkit to ensure equitable engagement and fair housing considerations to achieve whole community recovery. About the CPEE Toolkit
The CPEE Toolkit was developed in partnership between HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity and HUD's Office of Disaster Recovery. This resource aids recipients of CDBG-DR funds in conducting a citizen participation process that brings equity to the center of disaster recovery programs. Of key concern is ensuring that residents of impacted communities, especially members of protected classes, vulnerable populations, and underserved communities, have the opportunity to actively participate in the planning, implementation, and assessment of disaster recovery programs and projects.
