SPECIAL THANKS
Many thanks to the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians for awarding a grant to Acme Township for the Deepwater Connector. This next phase of the Nakwema Trailway will begin at Bayside Park, follow a scenic stretch of Acme Creek, and provide non-motorized access to the Deepwater Point Natural Area via shared roadway. Since the 2% allocation began in 1994, GTB has allocated $44,908,652.77 to local organizations - thank you so much for all you do to support the community!
Project Update

Project partners are excited to get back to work planning trail connections at the northernmost end of the Nakwema Trailway in Charlevoix. Our partners at the DNR are ready to pick up plans for a trail connection into Fisherman's Island State Park. We look forward to reengaging with the community and building on prior efforts later this year so stay tuned!

Did you know the entirety of the Nakwema Trailway exists on the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary Lands of the Anishinaabeg – the Three Fires Confederacy of Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples. When on the Trailway, you are in the presence of significant Anishinaabeg settlements. Specific settlements will be noted when trail routing is finalized.
