Principal's Message

Dear Wealthy Elementary Families,

The 10th Annual Interscholastic Yule Ball was held this past Saturday, February 25 and our students had a fabulous time!!  A big thank you to the Yule Ball planning committee for having the vision and energy to organize this event and for providing an experience our students will not forget. Over 350 East Grand Rapids students attended the Yule Ball and we collected 262 pairs of socks for Family Promise! This event was possible through generous contributions from all EGRPS Parent Teacher Organizations, local business interests, and parent/guardian volunteers.  It was a great night!

March is Reading Month
March is one of the most exciting months in an elementary school due to the celebration of March is Reading Month! Throughout the next five weeks we look forward to promoting one of our favorite activities - reading! The PTO will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair March 12-16. More information will be coming soon! Listed below are also some Spirit Days to celebrate the month of March. We will have our first Spirit Day this coming Friday!

  • Friday  March 3 - Slip into Reading Month (wear your favorite slippers)

  • Friday, March 10 - Be a Good Sport and Read (dress as your favorite sports team)

  • Friday, March 17 - Camp Out with a Good Book (bring a flashlight and wear pajamas)

  • Friday, March 24 - Reading Gives You a Bright Future (dress in bright colors)

In addition to our school-wide activities, teachers will host activities unique to their classroom. Thank you to our PTO for providing us the opportunity to participate in March Book Madness again this year. All classrooms will read picture books from March Book Madness 2023 and vote on their favorite titles. We look forward to a great month of celebrations!

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! If you know a teacher that deserves special recognition, consider giving them STAR Awards from the Foundation.

STAR Awards honor outstanding teachers and staff members for going above and beyond for our students. For a donation of $25 or more to the Foundation, we’ll produce a STAR Award for your favorite teacher or staff member and either present it to them or give it to you to present it yourself. Best of all, your donation will go toward funding enhancement grants that offer our kids educational opportunities that are second to none. To honor a teacher or staff member quickly and easily, visit the STAR awards page on our website. You can also nominate teachers for the Foundation’s annual Excellence in Teaching Awards or the James & Georgia Nicholas Endowed Award for Teacher of Math, Science or Technology. Nominations are due by May 1.
