Peterborough Culinary Collaborative Update
We have been sharing stories about the Peterborough Culinary Collaborative, and we're delighted to update you that we are now halfway through the training, with the women looking ahead to the next step: their paid placement in our community. What do the participants see themselves doing? Working in a bakery, café, or local restaurant kitchen? Do they see themselves starting up their own catering company, or working part-time in a long term care kitchen?
In early February, Susan and Morgan of Hanoi House joined us in Myrtle’s Kitchen, to offer mentorship to the Peterborough Culinary Collaborative, and they shared their vision of a pathway to joyful and meaningful work.
Together, we prepared the delicious vegetarian and pork spring rolls that are on the Hanoi House menu, exploring ingredients like mung bean vermicelli, dried shitake mushrooms and wood ear fungus. As the participants wrapped the spring rolls, Mogan shared stories and wisdom gathered throughout her career as a chef, with her key tips for growing as an employee. As we sat together to enjoy our feast of spring rolls, Susan shared her vision as a business woman and her key ingredients to a great work environment.
It’s an exciting time for the women to envision the next steps they want to take for themselves, and we can’t think of better mentors to join us at this time in the training. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Susan and Morgan for sharing their knowledge, passion and confidence as women in the culinary industry.
