Since 2021, MuckRock has been expanding its editorial team and launching projects on the COVID-19 pandemic, air pollution, access to child care and other public service topics with local partner newsrooms.

As we continue this work in 2023, we’re looking to help freelancers, newsrooms and community organizations expand their investigative reporting, FOIA and data work. We’re excited to provide financial support, editing, data and FOIA help to get your public interest stories published. Applications for assistance can be made in conjunction with or separately from our recently expanded Gateway Grant program.

Simply fill out the form with your name, email, newsroom or professional affiliation or freelance and a 500-word description of your idea. There is no deadline with applications evaluated on a rolling basis.

We're excited to roll out our next round of Gateway Grants, a program that provides funding and technical support to document-driven reporting, civic engagement efforts and other projects that put DocumentCloud to work to help gather, analyze and publish critical documents for the public.

On March 1 at 1pm Eastern, we're hosting an information session where you can learn more and ensure you're able to file the strongest application possible.

• On the internet, nobody knows you're the IRS: Internal IRS documents obtained via FOIA by Joseph Cox for Motherboard show the IRS paid Israeli firm Cobwebs Technologies hundreds of thousands of dollars for a tool that helps it monitor the web while undercover.
  
• Transparency can be a Royal pain: Reporting for The Daily Beast, Clive Irving shares details from the Index on Censorship on how the British monarchy has kept itself far away from the country's transparency laws, despite pledges for more transparency.
• Grammy Gripes: Matthew Guariglia requested a copy of complaints filed with the FCC regarding the 65th annual Grammy Awards, netting 87 complaints submitted. Satan makes an appearance 67 times in the missives.
