UOT Welcomes Camille Johnson to Leadership Team

The Utah Office of Tourism is pleased to announce that Camille Johnson will join the office as Community and Partner Relations Director on Monday, March 13. She has served as the Kane County Tourism Director for the last nine years. UOT Managing Director Vicki Varela said Johnson will add great value to the team.

"Camille's imaginative leadership and great relationships all over the state will help us elevate our execution of the Red Emerald Strategy," Varela said. "A core part of our strategy is building the visitor economy consistent with local priorities."

Johnson will continue living in Kanab, traveling the state to meet with partners in their communities. She is thrilled to be the first member of the UOT leadership team
to live and work in rural Utah.

"I'm humbled to have the opportunity to work with the very talented team at UOT," Johnson said. "I'm also ecstatic to work with communities and partners throughout the state. We only stand to gain strength as we become more connected."

Commissioner Wade Heaton, the supervising commissioner of the Kane Tourism Department said, "Kane County will sorely miss Camille as she is not replaceable but we are excited for her and these opportunities she has."

Johnson's key responsibilities will include:

  • maintain relationships of trust with regional and state leaders in and beyond the visitor economy, including destination marketing organizations, county commissioners, state parks, national parks and other key partners
  • work with communities around the state to create a vision and plan for developing their regional visitor economies, and provide the tools they need, including grants for cooperative marketing and destination development
  • advance the Forever Mighty® initiative, a key component of the Red Emerald Strategic Plan to encourage responsible visitation

A key early priority for Johnson will be working with consultant Nan Anderson to update partners on destination development grants available from the office. In the interim, Anderson can be reached at nan@capitolreefmedia.com
