Missouri HOSA’s 2023 State Leadership Conference Keynote Speaker
Morris Morrison is obsessed with building Stronger, Kinder, Focused human beings.  Along with his team at Windmill Park Media, Morris Morrison has become a world-class Entertainer, Show Host, Writer and Entrepreneur who's journey began in New York City before a doctor’s words changed his life forever, after being orphaned a second time.

Morris Morrison has been the go-to voice that has impacted countless youth, college & university and major corporate events that range from HR and Sales, to Supply Chain and Healthcare. After losing his parents in New York City and becoming orphaned a second time as a teen, early opportunities uncovered a unique brand of engagement that connects with all audiences and backgrounds, with an unforgettable message that sounds like a Hollywood movie script. Many of today’s world-leading organizations have partnered with Morris Morrison to build fearlessfocused leaders that drive uncomfortable change and healthy disruption.

After receiving his education from Fairmont State University and the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University, Morris Morrison's business journey included critical leadership roles in Human Resources and Sales & Marketing, prior to exploring his dedicated path of entrepreneurship and culture building. Today, many global leaders have witnessed his message live on stage and in his latest book titled Disrupt Yourself.  His message is powerful and his story is unforgettable, but his focus is clear — to bring families & teams closer and make organizations more impactful, through personal ownership, service and generosity.

Morris is best known for celebrating his biggest accomplishments off stage as a proud husband and father, with additional service to organizations including Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the YMCA and many others. Morris is a proud brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the West Virginia University Alumni Association, and the board of advisors for the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University and the Chestnut Mountain Ranch home for boys.

Check-in will start at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria and the questions will begin at 6:30 pm. Teams will be allowed to flow in and out of trivia based on competition needs. We will have a winner for each round and a combined round winner.  We can't wait to see who will be our first Missouri HOSA Trivia Champion!
Educational Symposium
Educational Symposium Presentations will be scheduled on hourly rotations throughout the conference at Rolla High School.  All participants are strongly encouraged to attend these workshops on a variety of topics.  Due to high demand at last year’s State Leadership Conference, our staff has added two additional presentations per hour.  The practice of attending Educational Symposium presentations is a valuable way to teach student members the importance of attending a professional conference.

TALLO RESOURCES
View in to a pre-recorded webinar for a refresher of Tallo and how the platform benefits HOSA members. There are many important links found in this resource:
  • Competitive event digital uploads to Tallo.
  • Best Practice: Follow the guidelines! Link to HOSA CE Guidelines.
  • Another Best Practice: Mark your calendar for CE Tallo deadlines.
    • April 1, 2023:  Emotional Well-Being Challenge
    • May 15, 2023:  All other CE Uploads Due (Review Guidelines for Details)
  • Encourage the competitor/team to submit digital uploads prior to the published deadline. The Tallo system notes the date and time of the upload and closes at the time listed so the competitor cannot wait until the last minute to start uploading digital requirements.  The HOSA guidelines have been available since September 2022 and the competitor cannot use the excuse "I didn't know the deadline." Competitors/teams not meeting the deadline will not advance to round two at the ILC!

CADCA’S NATIONAL FORUM
Since October 2022, I’ve been serving as CADCA’s Region 7 Representative within our HOSA cohort. CADCA, formerly known as Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, recently changed their acronym to stand for Community-Based, Advocacy-Focused, Data-Driven, Coalition-Building Action. Similar to our organization’s transition from Health Occupations Students of America to HOSA - Future Health Professionals, CADCA made this decision to be more inclusive of international involvement.

This transition was made at CADCA’s recent National Leadership Forum, which took place in National Harbor from January 30 - February 2, 2023. I received the opportunity to attend this four-day conference, and was able to present the capstone project that I have been working on in partnership with CADCA. The project that I’m working on is titled Path to Mental Health Equity, with the help of CADCA National Youth Advisory Council Member Ashok Kothamasua and CADCA Youth Trainer Rebekah Jin. It is mainly a social media initiative (follow me at @pathtomentalhealthequity!) that aims to educate vast audiences on the importance of equitable mental health treatment. Other implementation methods that I hope to put in place are infographics hung around multiple high schools in the St. Louis area, as well as a feature segment on my school’s biweekly broadcast.

Different individuals from varying populations will naturally face differing disparities – for example, some cultures are more traditional, so it would be more difficult for members of these communities to get the mental health care that they need. Mental health is a relatively new topic, which is why it may not be as welcome as the topic of physical healthcare to some. This also explains its heavy stigmatization – breaking the stigma of mental health is another large part of the mission I have for my capstone. We must become comfortable with it so that it can truly be normalized and integrated into society.

At this year’s National Leadership Forum, members of CADCA’s HOSA cohort were able to present their capstone projects on large poster boards in the CADCA Expo. There, we gave our elevator speeches to diverse groups of all ages – from national leaders of CADCA to youth members who have just begun their coalition work. I loved to meet so many diverse individuals and it was incredible to connect with each of them and learn what their coalitions were doing in their local communities – most of which surrounded substance abuse prevention.

I’m excited to extend my project into my work within Missouri HOSA – at this year’s State Leadership Conference, be sure to look out for Path to Mental Health Equity in HOSA Zone!

Missouri HOSA 2022-2023 Vice President of Public Relations
