House and Senate Firearm Bills Introduced

Hi!

Recently we have seen ten firearm related bills introduced in the Michigan legislature.  These bills are aimed at curbing your right to keep and bear arms as the founding fathers intended.

SB76- to require a license or background check for the purchase of firearms;
SB77- to broaden certain language about firearms in the state’s penal code;
SB78- to update firearms references in sentencing guidelines;
SB79- to provide penalties for storing or leaving a firearm where it may be accessed by a minor;
SB80- to update sentencing guidelines for weapons;
SB81- to exempt firearm safety devices like safes, lock boxes and trigger and barrel locks from sales tax;
SB82- to exempt the same devices from the use tax;
SB83- to enact an extreme risk protection order act (also known as red flag laws);
SB84- to prohibit the purchase of firearms if an individual has an extreme risk protection order;
SB85- to enact sentencing guidelines for making false statements in relation to an order; and
SB86 to deal with court fees and service of process for extreme risk protection order actions.

Michigan Open Carry, Inc’s legislative team has been hard at work analyzing the impact of these bills if passed.

We are urging everyone to contact your legislators and voice your displeasure with these bills and urge him/her to vote no. If you do not know who your senator is click here.  You can find your house representative here.  These bills will be getting a committee hearing in the near future.

The senate is acting fast trying to get these bills pushed through before the public can learn what is wrong with these bills.  We believe there could be need for litigation in the future if these bills are signed into law.  We would not be able to fight these battles if it were not for the support that we receive from our generous members and donors.  If you are able, please donate to the “MOC Legal Fund” here.

Sincerely,
