DUT’S PROF KEOLEBOGILE MOTAUNG HAS BEEN NOMINATED AS ONE OF THE STRATEGIC AFRICA WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP (SAWIL) TRAILBLAZERS TOP 30 FINALIST PIONEERS OF TRANSFORMATION, GENDER EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement, Professor Keolebogile Motaung is flying the DUT flag high.  She has been recently nominated as one of the Strategic African Women in Leadership (SAWIL) Trailblazers Top 30 Finalist Pioneers of Transformation, Gender Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.

She has been identified as one of the women who have shown great success, constant drive and achievement in their business and research field of work.

MOTSEPE FOUNDATION DONATES R1.1 MILLION TO THE DUT SRC TOWARDS STUDENT REGISTRATION

The 2022/23 Durban University of Technology (DUT) Student Representative Council (SRC) recently received a donation of R1.1 million from the Motsepe Foundation to go towards student registration, fees and historical debt.

The DUT SRC President, Mr Sanele Khumalo was amongst the 26 university SRC Presidents that received the donation from the Motsepe Foundation at the Universities in Dialogue meeting held in Sandton Sun, Gauteng, last Thursday, 16 February 2023. At the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder of the Motsepe Foundation, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe announced that the Motsepe Foundation is donating R30 million to the SRCs of the 26 South African universities.

DUT RESEARCHERS OBTAIN FUNDING TO STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GRONINGEN

Two Master’s students, Samora Buthelezi, Pilasande Mlatha and emerging researcher from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Applied Sciences, at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), are jetting off to the Netherlands in March 2023. The two students have successfully obtained funding towards a scholarship opportunity to conduct experiments at the University of Groningen,  Netherlands, towards the completion of their Master’s degrees.

The Faculty’s Dr Pinkie Ntola, explained how the funding came about for the trip to Netherlands. She had met with Dr Chelsea Tucker (who is now one of the collaborators and co-supervisor of the students), through a colleague and friend in Catalysis, Sinqobile Mahlaba.

DUT MANDARIN LECTURER, MR SANELE NTULI WINS INTERNATIONAL CHINESE COMPETITION

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Mandarin Lecturer, Mr Sanele Ntuli was recently announced as the winner of the Second International Chinese Classroom Teaching Short Video Contest (2022). This global competition was co-sponsored by the Singapore Crestar Confucius Classroom and Chinese Test International, and jointly organised by the International Chinese Teacher Certificate.

Ntuli (27) from Ntuzuma, Durban is currently a Mandarin lecturer, which is a form of Chinese, under the Confucius Institute (CI) at DUT. The Confucius Institute at DUT was established in 2013 after the university partnered with Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University (FAFU) from Fujian Province, China.

NKOMONDE AIMS TO CHANGE STUDENTS PERCEPTION TOWARDS THE SRC 

Visibility, Honesty and Transparency are the key values Njabulo Nkomonde aims to encompass as the Student Representative Council’s (SRC’s) Organisation and Accommodation Officer.

The 27-year-old Nkomonde is a  Business Administration Postgraduate Diploma student. He grew up in a small village called eThalaneni Thalathula section in Nkandla, and was raised by his grandmother uMaNtombela Nkomonde (Intombi kaSophia phaqa).

DUT IMPACT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) recently approved the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework. The five values are identified as transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. The principles espoused are fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT’s Communications team, Lethukuthula Sifiso Ngubane and Nomvelo Zulu spoke to Samkelisiwe Dlamini; Library Assistant: Circulation at the Alan Pittendrigh Library, Steve Biko Campus.
