Weekly Newsletter: Magnifying God by Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Preparing for Sunday |
Romans 12:1-2

Prepare your heart for Sunday by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of your time in the Word.

Make plans to celebrate our 25th Anniversary on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

  • 8:30 am - Gathering: Thanking God for the Past
  • 9:45 am - Fellowship breakfast
  • 10:30 am - Gathering: Praise for the Present
  • 12:15 - Lunch
  • 1:30 pm - Gathering: Confidence for the Future

The Latest News section of the Summit Woods website is the place to find our Preparing for Sunday posts. It is also a great resource for articles, baptism videos, important updates for members, and many other resources.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Amidst the mass of information swarming around us, take some initiative to think on things that will let your heart rest in Christ: Think on These Things - February 22, 2022

25th Anniversary Cookbook

Hello church family! This coming spring, SWBC will celebrate 25 years of ministry. To commemorate this occasion, we are going to create a church cookbook. Imagine all of our favorite recipes in ONE spot!

You can submit each recipe HERE, or you can grab a paper form to fill out from any of the following ladies: Angie Dubbert, Rachel Stouffer, Ann Gray, or Raylene Tormanen. There will be a beautifully decorated basket in the foyer to collect the paper forms in the weeks to come.

Remember, recipes CANNOT be copyrighted, so any online or other cookbook recipes you love in addition to your family recipes CAN and should be included.

Let any of the ladies listed above know if you have any questions! We will be collecting recipes until mid-February. So please submit all of your favorites! Please read the instructions carefully so we don’t have any formatting issues when we publish.

Financial Need and Online Giving

If you have need, please communicate that need to us directly, or if you become aware of a need by one of our members, please use the online form for making needs known. We will do our best to assess the best solution, including wise use of our benevolence fund.

Also, our website has more information for those who are interested in using an online option for their regular contributions to SWBC or for benevolent needs. If you are giving by check, please use an envelope (provided in back of pew) to help us in satisfying IRS records requirements.

We, at Summit Woods Baptist Church, seek to spread the Gospel to all people, and find great conviction in the need to represent Christ as His ambassador at all times. Below you'll find updates regarding our partnerships with ministries that are devoted to gospel-driven local churches, gospel-driven service, and gospel-driven results.

Health
  • Pray for John McGee with the mystery category of rare illness he is experiencing.  He will seek additional medical assistance, but will keep going until more symptoms surface again.  Pray for Carol as well as she serves John through this trial -- and pray they both will trust the Lord with the unknown.
  • Pray for Mark Gray with his active myeloma. He is currently on weekly chemo treatment through Aug 2023. He will be pursuing additional treatments in the near future. With Mark’s immune system compromised, he and Ann will be physically distancing, so seek ways to tangibly and intangibly encourage and care for them. Their trust is fully in the Lord and His sovereignty, praise God. Please pray for healing, being a positive witness for Christ to those they encounter along the way, and to glorify our sovereign God.
  • Continue to pray for Stanton Gragg. His surgery on Monday went well, however, more cancer was found. Please pray for the medical staff as treatment options are assessed. He has asked for prayer specifically that his hope continues to remain strong in the Lord and the power of His might – and for his wife, Robyn, that strength is poured upon her as she continues to faithfully care for him.
  • Pray for Babe and Lowene Darnell. They both are experiencing health issues that have kept them from attending regularly. Pray for endurance during this time, for healing, and they would be able to return to the fellowship (they very much desire this!)
  • Dottie Roberts is currently unable to fellowship with our body due to covid concerns.  Please continue reaching out to her. Dottie faithfully watches our morning gathering online and seeks to keep up with the prayer requests our of body.
  • Pray for Otis and Ann Sisson. Ann is experiencing dementia and Otis is caring for her.  Pray for endurance for both of them in this trial.
Family
  • Lori Roberts' mother was diagnosed with cancer in March 2022.  She had various procedures over the last year. Recently her mother’s health has declined quicker than anticipated. Her mom is currently hospice at home. Lori trusts in God and in His timing and is praying her mom does not suffer.  Continue to pray for them and reach out to Lori to encourage her.
Salvation/Missions
  • Pray for the workers in South Asia as they bring the gospel to the unreached areas surrounding them.
  • Pray for the workers in Central Asia in their work in building up the church.

In general, it will not be our policy to cancel our Sunday Morning Gathering at 10:30 am. Equipping Class and Sunday School, which depend on a greater number of volunteers, may be cancelled. The decision to cancel Equipping classes or Sunday school (or the main service, in the case of truly dangerous weather conditions) will be made by 6:00 AM on Sunday morning.

Cancellations or revisions to the schedule will be communicated via email, Remind text messaging, facebook, twitter, and the website. Please check these sources prior to traveling.

Please use caution when making a decision to travel in inclement weather.

If you need to request meals for yourself or someone else in the body in need, please email the team.

For more information on how to be involved in the Meal Ministry and to register to volunteer; see our website.

Remind is a helpful way for us to communicate more effectively and efficiently with our members!  Click HERE for instructions to register and receive text message reminders regarding winter weather changes, event changes, or ministry cancellations.  If you don't have text messaging, you can also sign up to receive the same reminders via email.
