Bringing rivers to life across the Westcountry with you
Welcome to our February newsletter.
This month, although short, has been a busy month for all here at WRT. It has seen an MP visit, the second episode of this year's podcast as well as lots of project updates.

Listen to the February Confluence Podcast now.
This month, WRT's Hayley is joined by one of our fantastic CSI volunteers, Vicky Whitworth to chat all things rivers, protecting them and of course, becoming a Citizen Scientist with us.
The National Coppice Federation (NCFed) has received funding from the Forestry Commission’s ‘Woods Into Management Forestry Innovation Fund (WIMFIF)’, to undertake a new project in South West England for privately-owned woodland.
The ‘More Coppice Into Productive Management’ project runs until end of March 2025, with the aim to significantly improve the understanding of where coppice woodland is located and its condition. This will result in the production of an interactive web-based map.
Our PROWATER project stands for protecting and restoring raw water sources through actions at the landscape scale.
Since 2017, we have been working as partners in the cross-border scheme to build resilience to climate change. The project has done this by restoring the natural landscape’s ability to absorb and hold on to water after rainfall, then slowly releasing it into our river systems throughout the year.
More than £18,500 saved through Soil Mineral Nitrogen tests.
Our Soil Mineral Nitrogen (SMN) project in Devon’s Otter catchment has helped farmers save thousands of pounds while supporting river health.
The scheme falls under the Upstream Thinking 3 (UST3) programme, funded by South West Water (SWW), which works with farming communities across Devon and Cornwall to reduce the impact of farming practices on water quality.
The Forestry Commission are sponsoring the Devon County Show woodland awards this year and need your help to encourage those with woodlands to apply!
£500 will be awarded to the winner in each category, with £100 for second place and £50 for third place. Closing date for applications is the 5th March 2023.
To help with our charity fundraising, this year you could support our work when you shop online at no extra cost through Give As You Live.
And for anyone looking for a way to show the world your love of freshwater habitats, we've opened a sustainable clothing and gift store too with Teemill.
Find out more below, but rest assured every penny raised will be supporting our teams to keep bringing the region's rivers to life.
Every sale raises funds for our charity, plus you get to show the world how much rivers mean to you or give a great gift to the river lover in your life.
Our store uses organic materials, renewable energy, plastic-free packaging and circular processes to create our sustainable goods.
