Happy Black History Month!

Happy Black History Month!

Dear Metro Detroit Transit Riders,

February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans throughout history. As we reflect on the many achievements of Black Americans in various fields, let us not forget the important role that Black Americans have played in shaping the world of public transportation in Metro Detroit.

Over the years, Black Americans have been instrumental in making public transit more accessible and inclusive for all riders. From the activists who fought for equal access to public transportation during the Civil Rights Movement to the Black transit workers who have helped to keep our buses and trains running smoothly, Black Americans have helped to transform public transportation in our region.

In Metro Detroit, many Black Americans have made significant contributions to the development and improvement of public transportation. For example, former Detroit Mayor Coleman A. Young helped secure funding for public transportation projects in the city and strongly advocated accessible transit for all riders. Check out our social media to see a recap of some of the great leaders we shared this month.

We recognize and honor the many Black Americans who have helped shape and improve Metro Detroit's public transportation. As we ride the bus or train to work, school, or other destinations, let us remember their contributions and continue to work towards a more accessible and equitable transit system for all riders.
