Dear Military Veterans,
Yes, you have unique skills and experiences that are highly valued in the civilian workforce.
Transitioning to a civilian career can be challenging and requires planning, research, and commitment.
I am committed to helping you overcome those challenges.
For starters, here are a few tips:
☑ Work with Infinite Potential Résumés to translate your experiences and skills: Let's position your skills in your resume to be relatable and aligned.
☑ 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: Building connections with other veterans and people in your desired field can be extremely beneficial. Engage on LinkedIn and attend job fairs and events specifically targeted at veterans. Also, consider joining veterans’ organizations or professional associations.
☑ 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝: Understand what the job or industry is like before you apply. Research the industry and position and make sure it aligns with your skills and interests. Understand the trends and what the job entails.
☑ 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: Determine your eligibility for education and training programs, vocational rehabilitation, and other benefits. Research the resources available to you through the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Labor and take advantage of those resources that may help you find and secure a civilian job.
☑ 𝐁𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Other roles may not be an exact match for your military experience, but will provide you valuable skills and experiences for your longer-term career goals.
☑ 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬: If the field you are interested in requires a certification, license, or credential, make sure to obtain it.
☑ 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: A mentor can provide valuable guidance and support as you navigate your transition. Look for veteran organizations, government agencies, or other groups that offer mentorship programs.
☑ 𝐁𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭: Transitioning from military service to a civilian career can take time, but with a good attitude, the right approach, and persistence, you'll be able to find a good fit.
