Are you an Alberta-based team applying for the upcoming CIHR THINC Impact Hub funding opportunity? Support is available from the Alberta Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Support Unit! Alberta SPOR has numerous services available for your grant development. They also host the Implementation Science Collaborative which provides methodological advice for embedding implementation science into health innovation initiatives. Both Alberta SPOR and the Implementation Science Collaborative are available to support THINC Impact Hub applicants. To learn more email stephaniebrooks@ualberta.ca.

2. Implementation Science Discussion Group

Once a month, the Office of Spread and Scale (OSS) hosts an online discussion group that provides an opportunity for people to discuss a key topic or paper with peers and implementation science experts. Implementation science newcomers are welcome! The upcoming session will feature Drs. Nicole Nathan & Alix Hall, who will discuss the development and significance of a refined Expert Recommendations for Implementation Change (ERIC) sustainability glossary.

3. Pilot and Feasibility Studies: Past, Present, and Future

Dr. Lahana Thabane will be presenting on the topic of pilot versus feasibility trials in implementation. Dr. Thabane is a Vice-President of Research at St Joseph’s Healthcare—Hamilton; Scientific Director of the Research Institute at St Joseph’s Healthcare; Professor of Biostatistics and Former Interim Chair/Associate Chair of the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact; Associate Member of the Departments of Pediatrics, Medicine, Family Medicine, Surgery, Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, and Anesthesia, School of Nursing, and School of Rehabilitation Science, in the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University.

4. Applications Open: KT Canada Summer Institute

The purpose of this Summer Institute is to provide participants with the opportunity to increase their understanding of knowledge translation research as well as opportunities and challenges in this field. The Summer Institute will provide participants with the chance to network with colleagues including national and international KT experts. Applications from a wide range of disciplines that span all of CIHR’s research themes (clinical, health services, and population health) are encouraged.

5. From Pilot to Practice: Sustainability, Spread, and Scale with the Healthy Seniors Pilot Project

At the core of knowledge translation is a desire to move evidence into policy and practice—putting what we learn from research to work in real-world settings. The Healthy Seniors Pilot Project (HSPP) involves more than 65 community and government applied research initiatives, exploring how to better support older adults in New Brunswick and beyond. Many of these pilot projects are moving into a new phase of work that focuses on sustainability, spread, and scale. Join us to learn more about the HSPP and the unique approaches that two HSPP projects are taking to sustain their projects, expanding the impact of their research for public good.

6. Choosing Wisely Canada's National Meeting

7. Training: Implementation, Scale, and Spread
Enrollment opens March 21, 2023 

The foundational course Implementation, Spread, and Scale, offered by The Center for Implementation, is opening for enrollment on March 21! This course provides you with a vital roadmap for planning and executing your implementation, spread, and scale efforts. Major refinements have been made to this course since its first release in 2020. The instructors have streamlined the structure and updated concepts, drawing from developments in the implementation science field and the work of implementation support practitioners.

8. Quality Forum 2023
June 6-8, 2023 | In-Person | Vancouver, BC 

Save the date! This year’s Quality Forum is once again a three-day event and will include a variety of sessions on topics related to improving quality across the continuum of care. You can look forward to a selection of full-day pre-Forum sessions on June 6, as well as our annual pre-Forum evening event, Health Talks. Our main Forum programming on June 7 & 8 will feature a mix of content, including plenary speakers, workshops, focus sessions, rapid fire presentations, storyboards, field trips and more.

10. UK Implementation Science Research Conference

Now in its sixth year, the 2023 conference will bring together scientists, researchers, policymakers, clinicians, practitioners, service users, and the public from around the world. 12. Knowledge Translation Graduate Student Awards
Application Deadline: April 7, 2023

The purpose of the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health Knowledge Translation Graduate Student Awards is to recognize the work of graduate students regarding knowledge translation in public health in Canada. Three prizes of $1500 will be awarded during the Canadian Public Health Association annual conference. Awardees are expected to use the funding to support their registration and virtual attendance at Public Health 2023. Award winners will present their knowledge translation research projects to an audience of public health networks in Canada.

13. CIHR Team Grant: THINC Knowledge Mobilization & Impact Hub
Application Deadline: May 16, 2023
Funding Start Date: October 1, 2023


The Transforming Health with Integrated Care (THINC) Knowledge Mobilization & Impact Hub will build and support a vibrant pan-Canadian learning community involving all THINC grantees and knowledge user communities towards advancing evidence-informed integrated care transformation and catalyze progress towards achieving the Quadruple Aim and health equity (sometimes referred to as the Quintuple Aim). Value: Up to $200,000 per year for the first year and $400,000 per year for years two (2) through and including six (6) for a total of $2,200,000 per grant.

15. Mustard Postdoctoral Research Award in Work and Health
Application Deadline: March 24, 2023


This award supports the development of outstanding new researchers in the field of work and health congruent with the mission of the Institute of Work and Health. It aims specifically to build capacity for innovative multidisciplinary research concerning the relationship between work environments and worker health. As such, the award is open to a range of academic disciplines including social, behavioural, and organizational sciences, as well as clinical and population health sciences.

16. Patient and Community Engagement Training Award

The Patient and Community Engagement Training (PaCET) Program competition is now open for University of Alberta-based trainees. This opportunity prepares trainees (graduate students and postdoctoral fellows) to better understand the complexity of women's and/or children’s health and to navigate stakeholder dynamics in collaborative, transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral projects. The program aims to build capacity and support practice in non-academic (patient/community) stakeholder engagement in women and/or children’s health research. Funding of up to $8,000 is available for the award term (September-April).
