Church News and Notes
Lenten Devotion book “Water and Spirit”. For those who are using the ELCA devotion book “Water and Spirit” for individual devotion, the first ten days from Ash Wednesday to the end of the first week of Lent, the daily lessons span John’s introduction to the gospel, the baptism of Jesus, calling of the disciples, and the beginning of Jesus’ ministry with the wedding at Cana and Jesus in the Temple. All of these exemplify the presence of water and the spirit in Christian life. The waters of baptism and the miraculous turning water into wine and the spirit of Christ as the Word of God, the spirit descending like a dove and Jesus teaching in the Temple are all examples. Enjoy your daily meeting with John and the authors of the homilies in the text.
Lenten Bible Study in Quist Hall: 2/26, 3/5, 3/19, & 3/26 – Pastor Richard will begin a 4-week Lenten Series “Jesus Through Other Eyes” about how other religions—Gnosticism, Judaism, Islam and Buddhism—view the figure of Jesus. This Sunday we survey the portrayal of Jesus in the canonical gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas.

We received this email from Pastor Esteban at Iglesia Santa Cruz. Please pray for the families in their congregation affected by the recent rains, and prayerfully consider his request.
Dear Friends, Family and colleagues,
We hope that this email finds you well. We are sending this urgent email to ask for help for our community. The recent rains have washed away many of the fields and left our community jobless. The devastating rainstorms have turned almost all of the fields into rivers and many others have washed away the crops. We are asking for monetary donations to help our fieldworkers cover some of their urgent needs. We usually don’t ask for a lot but, we see the urgency in our people and know it’s time to go to work. Our families need your help! Please help us help them.
Blessings,
Rev. Esteban Salazar
