40 DAYS FOR LIFE Spring 2023

“40 DAYS FOR LIFE is an internationally coordinated 40-day campaign that aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses.”
Once again, the diocese is participating in the spring campaign from February 22nd thru April 2nd.
Our bishop is very pro-life, and especially during these 40 days we are encouraged to pray for the end of abortion, and the legal protection of the unborn. Since 2007 22,829 lives have been saved. Please watch for information to join members of Holy Cross Parish for a peaceful prayer vigil outside Planned Parenthood.

Diocese of Springfield
Lenten Regulations, 2023

1. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat as well as days of fast, when only one full meal is allowed. On days of fast, two other meatless meals may be taken, according to one’s needs; but together they should not equal another full meal.
2. The other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat.
3. The obligation to abstain from meat begins at fourteen (14) years of age and does not cease.
4. The obligation to fast begins at eighteen (18) years of age and ends at fifty-nine (59) years of age.

Lenten Bible Study

No Greater Love
Experience the Unconditional Love Christ Has for You

We often hear about Jesus’ passion and death but imagine experiencing them for the very first time.
In No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion, we are going to walk step-by-step with Jesus on his journey from his agony in the garden to his crucifixion on Calvary.
Along the way, we will unpack the biblical background to these events, the prophecies, and most especially, the ways Jesus is inviting us to walk more closely with him today.

No Greater Love is a five-part Bible study program that will run from Tuesday, February 28, 2023 through March 28, 2023 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm in the Rectory Conference Room
as well as Thursday, March 2, 2023 through March 30, 2023 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm via ZOOM.
For more information visit ascensionpress.com, or to register contact Mary Hart at (413)455-4778 or maryhart.avon@yahoo.com.
No Greater Love is a biblical pilgrimage that reveals Christ’s amazing love for us.
Best-selling author Edward Sri guides you through the last hours of Christ’s life.
Every step of the way, Old Testament prophecies, messianic expectations, biblical symbolism, and historical context shed light on the mystery of Christ’s suffering and death.
Experience a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love for you—grow closer to Jesus than you ever have before.

You are welcome to the First Friday Prayer Mass at 7:30 a.m. on March 3rd at St Michael’s Chapel on Elliot St.
A complimentary continental breakfast will follow.
The speaker will be Fr. Francis Reilly with songs of Irish heritage and of the faith.

Prayer for Enlivening Our Parish

Below is a link to the "Enlivening Our Parish" prayer that we pray at the beginning of each Mass. Copies of this prayer are once again available in the pews, as are the readings for Mass. I am including a link for the PDF copy of it in this issue, and future issues of, the "Chronicle". You can view it on your phone or mobile device when needed if you don't have access to a printer.

But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always.
