2023 CBC Nonfiction Prize is now open to Canadian writers

Writers from across Canada are invited to submit to one of Canada's most prestigious prizes for unpublished work! You can submit memoir, biography, humour writing, essay, personal essay travel writing and feature articles up to 2,000 words, as long as it has not been previously published.

FIBC Completion certificate required in the final tax year of production as of April 1

As of March 31, 2023, the transition period, with respect to the requirement that a Completion Certificate be submitted with the T2 corporate income tax return in the final tax year of the production, will be ending. Starting April 1, 2023 per section 85(1) of the Income Tax Act of British Columbia, corporations filing a claim for the British Columbia film and television tax credit (BCFTTC – FIBC) must submit a Completion Certificate with their T2 corporate income tax return if the production was completed in the related tax year.

Creative BC has updated the forms available in the Motion Picture Tax Credits section on the website to make PDF documents fillable for your convenience and our efficient data processing. There are updated fillable PDF forms available on our website.

Motion Picture Tax Credits: Know your CRA filing deadline

An eligible production corporation (FIBC) and an accredited production corporation (PSTC) can claim the motion picture tax credits by attaching a completed claim form and the certificate(s) for each eligible production to the top of the T2 corporate income tax return form for each taxation year, while filing with the CRA within 18 months from the end of the tax year in which the tax credit is being claimed.

Deadline Extended: Reel Green™ Power Tie-Ins Program

The Power Tie-ins Program is a new granting program delivered by Creative BC for Reel Green™’s Clean Energy Committee. The Committee is investing up to $2,500 in electric grid tie-in projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in high-volume filming areas.

The Music Industry Initiatives program supports initiatives that grow and develop British Columbia’s music ecosystem. Successful projects will build the capacity of BC’s music industry through training, knowledge transfer, and the creation of new business opportunities.

Funds are limited and will be awarded through a competitive process. Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 pm PST on March 3, 2023.
