Dear Community,

As you may be aware, a group of national far-right, neo-Nazi organizations are calling for a "Day of Hate" this coming Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Their message, from some of the more vocal and notorious hate groups in the United States, is being spread on different social media and messaging platforms. They call for protests, vandalism and the dissemination of flyers and other hateful messages. These organizations have been mainly focused on Jewish institutions, but in addition to being antisemitic, they are highly xenophobic, anti-Islamic and racist.

We understand this is disturbing and upsetting. While security sources are reporting that they are not aware of any specific or credible threats in Michigan related to the “National Day of Hate,” we have been taking a proactive approach.

Jewish Community Security, Inc. (JCSI) in Detroit has been monitoring this situation and keeping us fully informed. Our local law enforcement partners at AAPD, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI have been made aware of this alert. We have also brought it to the attention of our interfaith partners who may be targets of hate themselves.

We are asking our Jewish community to be vigilant and situationally aware. If you encounter any activity, do not confront any individuals; they seek confrontation and will post videos of your interactions on social media to garner attention.

Please do report such activity to local law enforcement via 911. If you prefer, you may contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s dispatch at 734-994-2911 or Ann Arbor Police Department non-emergency dispatch at 734-994-2911.

Please do not share this message on social media or disseminate broadly. The perpetrators of this activity are seeking attention and publicity, and we don’t want to amplify their message.

The best way to counter this hate is to continue to actively participate in Jewish communal life and to strengthen relationships with friends, neighbors, and partners throughout Washtenaw County.

We hope everyone stays warm and safe this Shabbat. Should you need a place to warm up, please see information on Warming Centers in Washtenaw County here

Wishing you a joyous Shabbat.
