We have a new bus!

Thanks to generous donations from our parents, along with our Solefield Parents' Association (SPA) the whole school excitedly enjoyed checking out our new school mini bus. It has truly helped transform the life of our boys having this new school vehicle. You can watch the video of all the boys having a turn on the link below.

Solefield invites local school to 'Macbeth'

Our boys enjoyed welcoming Year 6 students from St. John's Primary School to join us for an activity run by 'Panto in a Day'.

The Year 6, 7 and 8 boys all watched the abridged performance of Macbeth (cleverly performed by only three actors) and the the Year 6 boys remained afterwards (with the Year 6 students from St. John's) to have a workshop related to the play.

Although Shakespearean language was used in the performance and the workshop, the Year 6 students were not daunted; in fact, they appeared to take great delight in engaging with the original text. One student from St. John's, Freddie, commented on how much deeper you can learn when having fun.

Djembe Drumming Workshop

On 20th March we will be celebrating La Francophonie Day. This year we are going to focus on the countries in Africa where French is spoken. We invited Drumming for Drums to our school to demonstrate a traditional African instrument. It was lovely to have Sam visit with his Djembe drums, these drums come from West Africa and feature a lot in culture and music.

The whole school had a chance to attend a workshop where they learnt how to play different tones on the drum. The boys played some traditional African rhythms and even had boys and teachers up dancing to the beats! We also played a few games and did a drumming ‘Mexican wave’! Year 4 Music and Drama Recital

The Year 4 Music and Drama recital on 8th February was a triumphant success.

Each boy took to the stage to either perform musically or dramatically as either an individual or as a small group. The boys also performed as a whole year group playing a fabulous piece on their melodica. The boys finished the performance with a stirring song titled, 'Start the day in a brilliant way'

The boys were fabulous and should be very proud of themselves. Click below to watch a short video of this wonderful event.

Children's Mental Health Week

We celebrated Children's Mental Health week and focused on the theme 'Let's Connect'. Boys considered different activities they did to connect with others, (such as playing football or having a family meal) and created a whole school paper chain to share these ideas. In wellbeing lessons and form time boys completed more activities to do with the theme of connecting with others. For example, the Reception class realised that just like with Lego and Duplo we connect when we join together. They thought about how being a team and working together could make things easier. With this in mind they undertook a class challenge to create a rainbow using different items they could find around the classroom. On the Thursday we celebrated each of our unique qualities by 'dressing to express' and raised money for the Place2be charity.

Chess excitement at Solefield

The last few weeks have been busy with chess matches.

Firstly, in school, we took part in the Delancey UK chess challenge where nearly 80 boys from Y3-8 got a taste for a more formal chess tournament with paring cards. In the U9 category, our winner was Richard K and in the over 9s it was Freddie C. Boys who performed well will be invited to participate in the Megafinals next term.

Secondly, Year 3&4 had their first chess fixture against Sevenoaks Prep. In a 6-board match, Solefield managed to win 7-5 with 3 wins, one stalemate and two losses. Click below to read the list of boys who did so well in representing the school...

Spotlight on Elliot, Head Boy

What does your role involve?
I work together with Mrs McClure and help other staff and represent the school. I also make sure the younger boys feel happy and safe at Solefield and help new boys settle in. I’ve spoken at some open days and I have given tours around the school.  I also did a reading at the Carol Service and I will do one at the end of the year.

What do you most enjoy about being Head Boy?
I was excited to be chosen by the boys and staff to be Head Boy this year. Having this role is a real privilege to me.
