Spring Term (2)

Warm greetings after the half term holiday. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break.

We had a busy start to 2023, welcoming Wheeler students in year 13 and year 10 into college for study days (see picures below). We also selected our new cohort of 24 Year 9s, who will join us this year and we look forward to seeing them at their induction day next month. Hopefully they will not be too nervous and will be able to get an idea of the exciting programme of events that awaits them over the next five years. On March 14 we will also welcome back the inspiring speaker Steve Beckles-Ebusua (better known as Orange Tie Man), who will deliver an online session for Wheeler students on planning for the future; looking at effective goals, target setting, and getting things done.

We also invited the 27 schools in the Student Alliance to two Oxbridge online sessions, an online session for students interested in doing an EPQ and the Universities fair. We also held the first of our Future Founders sessions, in which students from Easthampstead Park, Sandhurst and Tomlinscote schools teamed up with students from Wellington to brush up on their entrepreneurial skills (see pictures below). And there is plenty to look forward to as 2023 goes on. Between now and Easter, we will host an Oxbridge online session, three Outdoor Education days and a Taking Maths Further Day, our second of the year. We also inviting students in Year 9 to a STEM Day on March 28 and  Humanities Day on March 29. Look out for information on how to book for those events very shortly.

The Teaching Alliance held a Science SSSG online, a SEND Teachmeet at Wellington College, and a Computer Science Teachmeet online and we also launched our new Education Specialist Leaders scheme. Under our CPLD Programme we welcomed colleagues to our Tough Conversations course, and two half-days focusing on Public Speaking. In this half of term we are holding our second Uncharted conference, a series of events which aim to help teachers fall in love with their subject again and understand better how what they teach in the classrooms is applied in the wider world. Maths will be the topic on March 21.

Wishing you, your staff and pupils all the best for the term and a very happy Easter.

Best wishes,
Paul
