Fair for Houston Seeking Community Support
|
|
Fair for Houston* is a campaign to reform the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), which is in charge of allocating billions in dollars of federal funding to thirteen counties in the greater Houston metro area, by proposing a City of Houston charter amendment to adopt a proportional voting system based on population size. Currently, Houston and Harris County have nearly 65% of the population represented by this council and less than 20% of the votes.
Fair for Houston is currently seeking community support in the form of volunteers (both to collect signatures and to validate them afterward), signatures, and donations, which go directly toward covering the costs of collecting signatures. They are looking to collect 30,000 by June 1. If you are interested in learning more or supporting Fair for Houston, please visit their website.
