Lent 2023 Resources from Jesuit Schools & Organizations
Over the next several weeks, all members of the AJCU network are invited to partake in the following resources from our schools (as well as partner Jesuit organizations) to help them in prayer during Lent. Please click on the following school names to learn about programs being offered on campus and/or online: Boston College, Creighton University, Fairfield University, Georgetown University, Loyola Marymount University, Loyola University Chicago, Loyola University New Orleans, Saint Louis University and The University of Scranton.

In addition to Jesuit colleges and universities, Jesuit organizations across the country have also created new resources for Lent this year: Ignatian Solidarity Network; Ignatian Spirituality Center; Ignatian Young Adult Ministries; Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States; Loyola Press; Office of Ignatian Spirituality; and The Jesuit Post.
Advocacy Updates
This week, Saint Peter's University's president, Dr. Eugene J. Cornacchia, participated in a roundtable with U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas. The roundtable was hosted by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) in Washington, D.C. and focused on ways that Hispanic-Serving Institutions can work with DHS to create professional pipelines for students interested in careers in cybersecurity and homeland security. On the West Coast, Seattle University's president, Eduardo Peñalver, testified to the importance of the Washington College Grant program in a session of the Washington State Legislature. Click here to view a video of his remarks on Twitter.
Today marks one year since the beginning of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Across the country, Jesuit schools will be marking the anniversary in several ways, including lectures and symposia at Loyola University Maryland and the University of Detroit Mercy; reports on support for scholars and students at Fordham University and Georgetown University; and a series of fundraisers hosted by The University of Scranton to raise relief funds (pictured right: The University of Scranton illuminated in blue and yellow in 2022).
Jesuit schools and organizations continue to demonstrate support for the victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria; click here to learn about efforts underway at Boston College. In addition, between now and February 27, Loyola Press will donate 100% of net proceeds from a selection of books to support relief efforts of Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) in Syria. Finally, our friends at the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU) and the Kircher Network are continuing a crowdfunding campaign to support students of Saint Joseph's University of Beirut in Lebanon. Click on the video below to learn more; donations can be made by clicking here.
News from Jesuit Colleges & Universities
After last week's issue of AJCU Higher Ed News, we learned of two more schools offering new art exhibits this semester: Fordham University and Le Moyne College. Click here for a full list of exhibits taking place on our campuses over the next few months.

More news: Xavier University named the Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court as its Justice in Residence; Seattle University hosted members of the Washington Supreme Court through the Traveling Court outreach program; The University of Scranton dedicated its newly-renovated Multicultural Center; Saint Louis University marked Black History Month; Saint Joseph's University hosted Mission Week; and Santa Clara University debuted a new ministry initiative, 'This is What Mission Looks Like.'

Upcoming Conferences, Lectures & Alumni Events
Next month will mark ten years since Pope Francis was elected as the world's first Jesuit Pope. On Tuesday, February 28, Georgetown University will host a livestreamed celebration, while on Wednesday, March 1, Xavier University will premiere a new video on Pope Francis' leadership. Stay tuned for more coverage on the Pope's tenth anniversary in the weeks to come!
