Director's Note...

Dear Abiding Savior Family,

I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your preschool director for the last four years.   God has truly blessed us and grown our ministry and our ability to share the love of Jesus with young children and their families in the Saddleback Valley.

In November of 2022, I began to assist the district as the Early Childhood Consultant for the Pacific Southwest District.  At this time, I feel that God is calling me to serve in this new role.   I am honored to serve in a new way at Abiding Savior as the Minister of Education, where I can continue to support our ministry as well as the district.

My last day serving as Preschool Director at Abiding Savior Lutheran Preschool will be June 2, 2023.   I will be assisting with the transition to a new full-time director.

Grace and Peace,

Mary Wolfinbarger

This Week in Jesus Circle
Bible Story:  Jesus Welcomes Children Jesus Blesses Children (Mark 10:13-16)  Discovery Points:  Law:  The consequences of living in a sin-filled world can make us feel worthless and unimportant.  Gospel:  We are so important to Jesus that He died to save us from our sins and gives us new life.  Sanctification:  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can treat other people as important and beloved children of God too.          Bible Words:  Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me.”  Matthew 19:4

You can read this week's story in "The Story Bible" on pages 380-382.  Chapel this week is on Thursday.  Wednesday one of our students will be getting baptized at the elementary chapel on Wednesday.  If you are interested in the gift of baptism for your child/family, please let Mrs. Wolfinbarger know.

Midweek Lenten Services
Please join us each Wednesday in Lent for worship at 12:30 p.m.  Services are:

March 8
March 15
March 22
March 29

Dear Family: Your child has been learning the Bible story about Jesus blessing the children. Read it from the Student Book or a children’s Bible. Remind your child daily how much Jesus loves him. Look for ways to share the love and blessings of Jesus each day. Talk to Jesus about your child. Talk to your child about Jesus. Be sure to pray with your child and guide him in praying for others. In prayer, thank God for each person in your family. Then, trace each family member’s hand onto paper. Cut out the tracings. Write the person’s name and special things about that person on the hand shape. Use the hand shapes to pray for each family member this week.

Our chapel offerings will go toward Hearts for Jesus - Hope and Care Outreach.  Hope and Care Outreach equips local Liberia believers to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  This year's Hearts for Jesus goal is to, together, send hundreds of kids to Lutheran schools throughout the nation of Liberia! $95 is the average cost to send a child to a Lutheran school for the entire year! This modest sum is the difference between a child becoming literate or not, realizing the gifts that God has given them or not, and most importantly, knowing Jesus or not. We pray that you will be blessed as you join us in lifting up these precious souls and future Christian leaders of Liberia.

South County Outreach has a growing need for soup to help feed the many people in Orange County including families and the elderly. Please bring in canned or packaged soup throughout February and March to the Narthex (on your way to service) or the church office during the week.

Lost and Found
If an item is lost, the school is not responsible for the missing piece. Labeling all belongings will help us locate lost items and help all things make their way back home. Please periodically check the lost and found bins located on the sign-in podiums. Signs will be posted when it is time to clean out the lost and found, and unclaimed articles will be sent to charity.

Parenting Tip from Conscious Discipline

How can I help my child deal with pain?
Painful experiences are stressful to the mind and body. To help the body release endorphins (the body’s natural pain killers), touch is important. Deep touch, like we get during a massage, releases hormones that combat the corticosteroids (stress chemicals) in the body.

One way to touch your child is to play the I Love You Ritual “Putting Lotion on the Hurts” (pg 160).” This is a wonderful game to play with children after they have experienced some pain, either physical (after a fall from a bike) or emotional (after the death of a pet). You will need a bottle of hand lotion. Search the child for boo-boos, old scars or new scratches. The size or intensity of the scar or sore is not relevant. Begin the game by saying, “I am going to put some lotion on all those hurts. I see one right there. I will be very careful.” If the hurt is old, lotion can be put directly on the scar. If the hurt is new, be careful to circle around the wound with lotion. It is important that you repeat the message, “I will take care of you. No more hurts for you.” Continue looking over your child’s body for hurts. Use the time to massage old wounds. The nonverbal message to the child is, “You have experienced some pain, I notice that, and I am here for you.” Young children (under age five) are better with nonverbal communication than verbal. Even though the hurt the child experienced may be psychological, we can help address it in “child language” through touch. Psychological hurts and physical hurts activate the same pathways in the brain.
