Roses at the cenotaph

The start of spring has seen the approach to the War Memorial transformed by planting of wonderfully scented roses in tones of reds and pinks, kindly donated by David Austin Roses. Strawberry foxgloves, catmint and globe artichokes – all true favourites with our pollinators – have been added for long season colour and contrast in foliage.
The central beds have been carefully re-designed with flowering perennials in blue, greys and purples to evoke memories of Poole’s maritime past. Planting of bulbs will follow in the autumn.
The scheme is part of BCP Council’s move away from seasonal bedding displays to focus on more permanent planting. This will help us to take a positive step towards reducing our carbon footprint while increasing biodiversity.
We can’t wait for the weather to warm up, the blossom and the buzzing of the bees
