| | What Your “Moder” Gave You: Fears and Fantasies of Maternal Heredity in Medieval EnglandNH Humanities Fri Mar 24 at 5:00PM Via Zoom
In a strongly patriarchal society like medieval England, reproduction was meant to reinforce likeness between father and son. While medieval men might have wished to pretend otherwise, mothers, too, had tremendous impact on their children. Join NH Humanities as Dr. Samantha Seal explores medieval fears about the feminine influence on children in which mothers subvert fathers’ biological connection with “their” sons, bestowing their own maternal traits — magic and monstrosity, holiness and hereditary power — and challenging which sex was more powerful.
Dr. Samantha Seal is an Associate Professor of English and the Pamela Shulman Professor of European and Holocaust Studies at the University of New Hampshire. | |

| | Convenience Store with Gas Station and Dunkin Donuts Coming to LitchfieldLitchfield, NH-What’s Up? Reported by Shawn Blanchette
The Planning Board has approved a new convenience store/gas station with a Dunkin Donuts inside.
“Here’s the deal…. 1. Location = Route 3A, north end of town, in that empty sand lot by Edwards Auto Repair and Moores Falls. 2. What’s Included = A ”Litchfield Country Store”, gas station, diesel pumps, Dunkin’s, and in-store Sals Pizza. There will also be a storage facility out back that you won’t see from the road. 3. Road Improvements = There will be road improvements made in the area and eventually, the bike path will be extended from ABQ to the old Horses Farm/New Condos. 4. Aesthetics = The Planning Board and the Developer appear to have done as much as they can to make the building fit in as good as possible. The store will have a country feel and they did they best to tame the gas pump area. By Moores Falls, they will plant trees and vegetation to increase the buffer. 5. Zone = This is located in the Northern Commercial Zone, so businesses are an allowed use. That zone stops just past Mel’s to the south, which means that all down 3A in the heart of town is residential and agriculture only.”

| | St. Patrick’s ParadeManchester, Sun Mar 26 at Noon
“This longstanding Manchester tradition may be the granddaddy of all St. Patrick’s Day events in the Granite State. Organizations from around the state hoist the tricolor, don their green and march down Elm Street for the parade (which is held on a late-March Sunday every year to avoid competition). Park your lawn chair along the route, wave to the annually-nominated Grand Marshal and scout out more guys in kilts than you’ll see all year.” (NH Magazine) Parade route runs along Elm Street from Salmon to Central Streets. Find more info about the parade.
