Director's Note...

Dear Parents,

Please join us in welcoming our NLSA visiting team, Sharon, Donna, Elinor, and Aimee.  They will be on campus from Sunday through Wednesday.  We pray that they will see and hear what God would have them see and hear that they might celebrate the great things that are happening on campus and help guide us as we plan for Christ-centered excellence in early childhood for years to come!

We are looking for parents who would be interested in speaking with the NLSA team during their visit on Monday, March 20 at 5 p.m. (Childcare for enrolled students will be provided.) Children under age two are welcome to stay with you as you talk.  Please contact Mary Wolfinbarger if you are interested in participating.  The team would love to hear your testimonies!

We hope you will join us in worship on Sunday, April 1 at 5 p.m.  The children will be singing "Ho, Ho, Ho, Hosanna," "Love in a Box," and "He's Got the Whole World."  The congregation is hosting a reception after the service.  We would also like to invite you to our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m.

Stop by the office to see our featured artists including Colton, Brynlee, Abraham, Nathan, Cash, Leon, Theo, Johnna, Olivia, Jaxon, Isai, and Joelle.

Grace and Peace,

Mary Wolfinbarger

This Week in Jesus Circle
Bible Story:  Jesus Says to Serve At the Last Supper (John 13:1-15, 34-35; Matthew 26:26-28) Discovery Points:  Law:  Sometimes we think only of what we want and are thoughtless of others. Gospel:  Jesus came to serve others, even laying down His life for our salvation.  Sanctification:  Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we love one another as Jesus has loved us.   Bible Words:  (Jesus said,) “Love one another as I have loved you.”  John 15:12

You can read this week's story in "The Story Bible" on pages 392-394.  Chapel this week is on Wednesday.

Midweek Lenten Services
Please join us each Wednesday in Lent for worship at 12:30 p.m.  Services are:
March 22
March 29

Dear Family: In washing His disciples’ feet, Jesus set an example of love that He wants us to follow. As we daily receive God’s love and mercy, we can, through the power of the Holy Spirit, continue to grow in kindness to others. When we fail (and we will), we can ask God to forgive us, knowing that because of Jesus, He does forgive.
Talk with your child about ways your family members can serve one another, using their hands and their feet. Reinforce this by saying the following action poem together:
I have little feet (Point to your feet.)
To follow Jesus’ ways. (Walk in place.)
I have little hands. (Hold out hands.)
I fold them when I pray. (Fold hands.)

Our chapel offerings will go toward Lutheran World Relief.  Lutheran World Relief saves and improves lives in the poorest parts of the world.
We will persist until your love reaches every neighbor.  At Lutheran World Relief, we envision a future where all people, in every corner of the world can live full, dignified lives. Founded by Lutherans in the United States at the end of World War II, grounded in Lutheran theology and building on decades of experience, Lutheran World Relief tackles global poverty by helping people adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihoods and well-being. We work with people based on need, regardless of race, religion or nationality and we do not evangelize. We provide aid in emergencies and help families restore their lives. We partner with communities to build and grow rural economies. We break the cycle of poverty, so families and communities can thrive. Our goal is to help people build self‐sufficiency and create new community‐owned approaches to problem‐solving that will last long after our projects end.  https://lwr.org/

Parenting Tip from Conscious Discipline

What can I do to promote early learning?
1. Play with your child and provide opportunities for them to play. Play is essential for healthy brain development. The over scheduled child attending academic preschools is actually thwarting their own physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development.

2. Turn off the TV. The types of behavior necessary to succeed in school are completely different from those fostered by television. A young child’s developing brain is largely shaped by his/her environment. The average child will spend an estimated 5,000 hours in front of the TV before entering first grade (TV Turn Off Network). Yet, research shows that the child’s brain develops by “doing,” not “watching.” Children need activities that stimulate the frontal lobe by involving all the senses, not just passive viewing.

3. Read and talk to your child. Phonemic awareness of sounds comes from listening to the human voice. The sounds that the young child hears wire the brain with the first building block for reading. So talk-talk-talk and read-read-read to hardwire the brain for later academic success.

4. Model the joy of learning and discovery. This means you have to turn off the TV and engage in reading and other activities that keep the mind active. Let your child see you writing; give them writing tools, paper and books. Every time your child sees you writing a phone message, reading a recipe, writing a grocery list and reading a paper, magazine or book, you are modeling the usefulness of reading and writing. Explore museums, zoos and parks together. Take walks and discover the outdoors. These types of activities all stimulate early learning.

5. Connect with your child. Connections with the people in their lives boosts children’s brain potential, encourages cooperation, promotes learning and literacy, increases attention, decreases power struggles and builds loving bonds. This happens because connections on the outside literally build neural connections inside the child’s brain. My I Love You Rituals book provides more than 70 positive rhymes and activities that are ideal for enhancing social, emotional and school success through connection. If you don’t utilize I Love You Rituals, be certain to dedicate plenty of time to other connecting rituals that include eye contact and touch in a playful setting.

Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study
9:15 to 10:00 a.m. each Sunday morning in the Adult Education Room across from the Worship Center.

We will study  THE BEATITUDES that is designed to lead us into a more meaningful understanding of Jesus' message to us all about what the life as a follower of Jesus, i.e. a Christian, is meant to look like as Jesus Himself explained it.  His message, when fully understood, will bring peace and true reassurance to the believer.  Won't you too come and join us for this uplifting experience?  Pastor Matt Chandler will be our teacher and Roger Brown plans to moderate the discussion.

Vacation Bible School 2023 Needs Volunteers
We are excited to once again have VBS (open for students entering TK through fifth grades in the fall) at Abiding Savior this summer.  Abiding Savior's VBS will launch kids on a cosmic quest where they'll have a blast shining Jesus' light to the world.  Stellar rockets kids on an out-of-this-world adventure that's light years of faith-building fun.  Students entering sixth grade or above in the fall are eligible to volunteer.  Childcare will be provided for volunteers whose children are ages 6 months through 4 years old.  If you haven't volunteered yet, please complete a volunteer registration and help us share Jesus' wish with up to 140 students.

Click here to register as a volunteer.  Thank you for your support!
