MTA Accessibility updates
Happy almost-spring from MTA Accessibility! There's a lot going on here at the MTA, from improvements at Penn Station to our successful stroller pilot on buses, which we'll have a more detailed report on next month. For now, read on for updates on accessible boarding area decals, MyAAR and more!

Subway accessibility updates

We have a few exciting subway accessibility updates to share with you this month.

Testing decals in accessible boarding areas

In last month’s newsletter, we shared that we are testing new materials for a floor decal marking the accessible boarding areas at subway stations. Last month we installed these decals at Marcy Av (J/M/Z) in Brooklyn. This month we installed decals on every platform at West 4 St-Washington Sq in Manhattan (A/C/E/B/D/F/M). Please check them out and send us your feedback at accessibility@mtahq.org.

Side-by-side pictures show two ends of the boarding area decals. They include yellow borders and wheelchair, stroller, and elevator icons. They read "boarding area" and direct to the elevator.

Notice of proposed settlement of class action lawsuits

MTA logo.
The MTA and NYC Transit Authority recently entered into a proposed settlement agreement that would resolve two class action lawsuits relating to the accessibility of the subways for those with mobility disabilities.
If approved by the courts, the MTA will add elevators or ramps to stations, subject to the terms and conditions of the settlement agreement, so that by 2055, at least 95% of the MTA’s inaccessible stations, as identified in the settlement agreement, will provide stair-free paths of travel. The full notice of proposed settlement of class action lawsuits, including Information about the terms of the settlement agreement and related court hearings can be found on the MTA’s website.

Access-A-Ride (AAR) updates

Updates to MyAAR!

Our teams have been working hard to improve the experience of using MyAAR to manage your AAR trips. We’re excited to share that we have made the following updates to the Access-A-Ride experience for our paratransit customers (be sure to update your MYmta app!):

Easier to manage your MyAAR account

You can now easily request a new link to sign up for MyAAR, request a hint if you forget your email, easily change your password, as well as update your personal details including mailing address, email address, and preferences including text notifications and access to view vehicle requirements.

Easier to find information about your trip

AAR alerts are displayed more clearly in a banner on the top of your screen and there are messages regarding vehicle availability including assignment and GPS location. Additionally, language has been updated to make selections more intuitive, and you can see estimated pick-up and drop-off times for your trip. Other information including viewing recent trips and accessing trip ID have been made easier to find under trip details.

Easier to navigate the MyAAR website and the MyAAR trip planner within the MYmta app

The website will now be more compatible with the screenreaders VoiceOver (on iOS) and NVDA (for Windows) in Chrome browsers. On the MyAAR website, a new home button will help you navigate back to the MyAAR homepage.
