A group of students at South Dakota Mines is working alongside staff, faculty, and community members to host the Techstars Startup Weekend Rapid City on March 24-26 inside the Devereaux Library Makerspace on the Mines campus and at Elevate’s David Lust Accelerator Building (DLAB) on Main Street.

The Black Hills Defense & Industry Symposium brings leaders together to share the importance of defense investment in western South Dakota. Leaders will discuss how attendees can contribute to solutions for stronger national defense and bolstered regional economic development. Online registration is required and will close on April 1, 2023. There is no fee for students or any active military and civilian personnel at South Dakota National Guard, Camp Rapid, and Ellsworth Air Force Base.

Military Friendly has ranked South Dakota Mines second in the nation for its service to veterans. Mines is the only public university in the state to achieve a Top 10 ranking from the organization as a “2023-2024 Military Friendly® School.”

South Dakota Mines dedicated the Scott Rausch Avionics Lab on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, honoring the Mines alumnus, former instructor, interim department head, and avionics minor coordinator. Rausch passed away unexpectedly in April 2022.

South Dakota Mines and the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas in Lima, Peru, (UPC Peru) were awarded a grant from the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Innovation Fund to build a partnership that includes a student exchange for building the technical, intercultural and soft-skills training that are needed to improve water quality in Peru.
