Donors May Recommend Grant Recipients

Individual donors can actively engage in making grant recommendations through Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) with the Foundation.

Why consider a DAF? The gift to the Foundation provides an opportunity for Donors to streamline their charitable giving while maximizing their gift and make grant recommendations to nonprofits that match their interest. Many donors are able to take a tax benefit from charitable contributions, and most donors find DAFs an added convenience to their annual philanthropic giving.

To create a DAF, the donor provides a gift to the Foundation to create the fund and receive an immediate tax credit, from which smaller grants are awarded throughout the year, to any nonprofit organization as recommended by the donor and approved by the Foundation's board.

Donor interest has recently increased in creating DAFs, as the benefits are many! The funds may be invested and accrue interest through the Foundation's pooled investment accounts. Donors have 24/7 access to the fund to view and make grant recommendations, and friends and family can make donations to the fund on the donor's behalf. For many, the gifts to the DAF are tax deductible.

The Foundation maintains DAF accounts as anonymous for the donor’s privacy, and donors are recognized for their grant recommendations by the nonprofits, both of which can be especially important in a smaller and closely knit community such as Yellow Springs.

Nonprofit Events & News

The Connect YS! Volunteer Site Up and Running for 45387 Nonprofits!

We have already onboarded many of our local nonprofits on the YSCF Volunteer Portal - the Glen Helen Association, Tecumseh Land Trust, the YS Senior Center, John Bryan Community Pottery, the Tree Committee, and YS Schools.

The YSCF would love to schedule more nonprofits to take advantage of this opportunity to engage the community through volunteer opportunities and events - especially as a clearing house for events

For this volunteer portal to be valuable to your organization and our community, we need your help first! We are planning a Volunteer Sign Up Campaign in February (this month) to help us launch this system to the public, but we need organizations to load up events and volunteer opportunities so there is something for them to engage with.

How to start:

You can certainly do your own onboarding, on your own time. There are many resources available.
