Not S/V BOB.

The crew gets some tropical "training"

February is when the Vitamin D wears off in Alaska, and is a good month to get a little sun, so we treated ourselves to a trip to tropical Roatan, Honduras. Known for its good diving and trade-wind sailing, we took advantage of both. Oh and sloths may have been hugged a bit.

Blain is SUPER excited to be able to offer Introduction to Sailing Classes again this spring. He gets to take 6 folks at a time aboard the BOB, and teach them the basics. We are thrilled to be partnering with the Sitka Maritime Heritage Society this year and look forward to providing a great opportunity for Sitkans.
We are also celebrating the addition of "Captain" Wesley and "Lucky" Jack to the crew. They are already showing considerable grip strength and teamwork. Congratulations to our niece Shelby and her husband Connor on two handsome future sailors.
One particularly memorable dish in Roatan was the local cuisine by the Garifuna people. This whole fish Garifuna-style was pretty extraordinary. We might not serve it with the head still attached, but we do look forward to more tropical zing in our dishes this summer.
A sunny wintry day in Sitka can always be fun. We really enjoyed a trek with our friends Rob and Lois and their pup Trixie on our favorite local trail loop at Beaver Lakes.
The humpback whales and king salmon (chinook) are showing up in Sitka Sound. They follow the herring return with the longer days and this is a really magical time to be in Southeast Alaska.
Boy, folks, the schedule is pretty crammed. Our 2023 season still has a few trips in May/early June, though. Come sail away with us!
  • May 12-19, 8 days Sitka to Petersburg
  • May 23-29, 7 days Petersburg to Sitka
  • June 1-5, 5 days Sitka RT
We promised in last newsletter that there'd be more ukulele coming, and we deliver. Like Will Farrell and his fever for "more cowbell".

We submit quite possibly the ultimate uke photo. Note the flower over the ear...
