To Our Market Community,

Beaverton Farmers Market is where we meet new people and come together as a community, listen to good music and have good food. We are supporting our local farms and mom-and-pop shops, we care for one another and hold each other up. In a sense, it truly is a Family. And as the sunshine is warming up the air, it seems like the whole world is finally awake and buzzing! More exciting news is emerging, and we would like to highlight some of our vendors’ success stories in the making.

This has been an exciting week for Hapa Pizza, not only are they beginning their season with us this Saturday, but they held the grand opening of their new brick and mortar store in downtown Beaverton!

Hapa Pizza is a family-owned mobile restaurant that combines the flavors of Asian cuisine with traditional pizza craft from Naples, Italy. Their Asian fusion pizza represents owners Aaron and Natalie Truong’s unique experience growing up as Asian Americans and being a hybrid of multiple cultures. They try to bring together the foods they love most from East and West, forming a unique blend that needs to be experienced and enjoyed.

Aaron and Natalie share the story about trying to launch Hapa Pizza during the pandemic. “We started at BFM in the summer of 2021. That was around the time the market was barely accepting hot food vendors due to Covid, so we were unsure if we’d even get in. But they graciously accepted us and we went running. On our first day at the market, we didn’t know what the crowds would be like or what to expect. We showed up with 80 doughs, there were 3 of us working and just 2 ovens. We sold out in just a couple of hours! We knew we had to bring more next time. Throughout the years our team has found ways to improve our system, flow, orders and to manage lines. Now we are able to bring 200 doughs, 3-4 ovens and a team of 5. Our most popular pizzas have been the Banh mi and Pho pizzas. We are so appreciative of BFM, for helping us get our journey started. We honestly wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for them”

We are so proud of Hapa Pizza and all they have accomplished. You can enjoy their pizza creations at the market starting this Saturday, or you can visit their restaurant in Downtown Beaverton,12755 SW Broadway St., Beaverton, OR 97005

La Floridita gives marketgoers a taste of Miami, and some sunshine in every bite. After 3 seasons at Beaverton Farmers market, Ana Ocampo and her husband, Jesus Licciardello, shared some exciting news with us and the downtown community: they will be joining the Downtown Beaverton dining scene with a brick-and-mortar restaurant scheduled to open sometime in May. Their croquetas (ham or spinach) and pastelitos (numerous exciting fillings of choice!) are what initially brought the customers to their booth. These airy and crunchy snacks are popular in Latin America, and we are happy that La Floridita is sharing them with us and the greater Beaverton community. We will announce the details of their opening as soon as everything is firmed up.

Himalayan Dumplings introduced us to the flavors of Tibet with their handmade dumplings, known as Momos, and Tibetan handpies. Momo is a Tibetan word for all things dumplings in the Tibetan cuisine. This dumpling of Tibetan origin, has become a household dish and one of the most popular street foods in the Himalayan countries of Nepal, India and Bhutan, which hosts some of the largest or/and oldest Tibetan refugee settlements and thus the name Himalayan dumplings.

Tenzin Yeshi, known as Kyikyi, brought her Tibetan heritage recipes to the market in a desperate attempt to preserve the little-known at-risk cuisine. Like many of our vendors’ stories, Himalayan Dumplings had a humble beginning. Kyikyi started in a small tent, cooking at the markets with borrowed cookware. Now she has the first woman-owned Tibetan food brand in the US.

Himalayan dumplings will be starting their Market season in April. Their dumplings go fast so you will want to shop early.

In addition to selling at the Market, Kyikyi is sharing her cooking tips and cultural tidbits on her YouTube channel. And as if that isn’t enough to keep her busy she will soon be opening her own factory and a storefront in Beaverton. We will announce details as they become available.

Jessica da Silva has a plethora of education and experience in different commercial kitchens, running catering services, fine dining, serving food to big wigs and large tech companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and even owned her own baking company and a donut truck, until, with the new baby, she decided to concentrate on her family and moved closer to her family in Oregon. Here, she decided to go back to her roots, cherishing her memories of baking with her Grandmother and Oma. Today, Milk Money is one of our most celebrated bakers who happily opened a storefront in SE Portland, at 4943 NE MLK Jr Blvd open Tuesday - Saturday, 8:30 am - 2:00 pm. One of the things we appreciate most about Jessica is that she never compromises the quality of her product and always incorporates local produce and fruits into her baked goods.

Casa de Tamales (Canby Asparagus Farm)

One of our most-beloved hot food vendors, Casa de Tamales/Canby Asparagus Farm started with a small stall at Beaverton Farmers Market. Casa De Tamales incorporates authentic and fresh ingredients to make outstanding tamales, mole, and chili rellenos. Featuring handmade tortillas and homemade salsa, Casa de Tamales is the closest place in Portland to Old Mexico. In addition to being a market staple, you can find Casa De Tamales at their restaurant at 10605 SE Main St. in downtown Milwaukie, where SE McLoughlin Blvd. (99E), Highway 224, and SE 17th Ave converge.

Indigo Rescue will hold a puppy kissing both this Saturday! 5 adorable puppies and their loving Momma are looking for their furever homes. If you are on a search for the best friend, consider rescuing one of these rascals. This is a great opportunity to meet the puppies, check out their personalities, and of course, give them a big smooch!

If one of these faces already captured your heart, please get in touch with Indigo Rescue directly by clicking on the picture.

Market Sprouts

This week, we are welcoming our kiddos to explore flower-making! We are all excited about the Spring, and it just couldn’t come fast enough! So our plan for this week is to make vibrant flowers to get the trend started! Our hope is that Mother Nature receives the signal and we see many more real flowers in our gardens and parks very soon!
