Talib is a data engineer, snowboarder, and avid jiu-jitsu practitioner in the Bay Area who deals with insomnia.

“As someone who does jiu-jitsu regularly, I spend a lot of time getting choked and having my neck thrashed around,” Talib told us. “Coupled with my insomnia, having support for my neck during the night is probably one of the most important things to make sure I get a good night of sleep.”

It makes sense, then, that a pillow with a gel grid for head and neck support was one of his Wellness Diaries picks. (For new readers, Wellness Diaries is our regular series in which we give people in our community $1,000 to spend on any product, service, or experience of their choosing, so long as it enhances their health in some way.)

Aside from the $161 pillow, Talib also got a $450 shell jacket for snowboarding, $170 bedsheets, $50 daily supplements, an $80 rash guard, and donated the rest to his charity of choice: Fuzzy Butt Rescue.

You should check out Talib’s picks and why he chose them. They’re pretty cool >>>

First Sightings header with a pouch of black sesame superfood bites next to black sesame and the product

I got my first Coconut Cult monthly subscription order in the mail this week (the banana bread flavor is as good as everyone says) and it came with a little surprise: These ‘Nufs black sesame superfood bites. I love them! They were energizing and tasty and not too sweet. I want more

I’m intrigued by the Visp Elixir Mixer, which is like a glass tumbler with an electric whisk in it. Seems like a futuristic vehicle for my morning latte

Reliably here to inform you about new Hoka drops. The Rocket X 2 all-gender sneakers are designed for runners (especially racing) and come in one color that reminds me of a Gatorade bottle (in a good way)

I love spring aesthetics and I love hydrating and so I really love this citron Stanley 40-ounce tumbler

I’ve been enjoying these marine energy eye masks in the AM before I hop onto my Zoom calls

Also been on a cottage cheese kick lately

My favorite cutting board brand is having a birthday sale right now

Enjoyed some vanilla Bored Cow in my cereal this morning. It’s animal-free dairy milk that also happens to be gluten-free and free of nuts, cholesterol, hormones, and antibiotics. It’s really cool to see new lactose-free milk brands pop up that are kinder to animals and the planet and are healthier and are creamy and froth and taste good

Katy Z. used her Ness Card for a facial at a local spa and got 720 points, a single purchase that got her more than halfway to a $10 Juice Press gift card

A deal header with a green Fulton insole next to a white sneaker

When I was a high-arched teen, I needed orthotics. I was embarrassed because I thought they were deeply uncool. But insoles are actually highly cool because they give you arch support, which is good for all your muscles, tendons, joints, and bones from your feet to your spine. I love that Fulton has identified a need (spine-aligning insoles) and made them cool (sustainable and designed well). I want them and need them and you probably do, too. And our readers can get them 15% off with the code NESS15

Doctors are synonymous with celebrities in the skincare world

Although the celebrity beauty brand bubble might be bursting

And maybe it’s because celebrities (you probably already know which one) are doing things like rectal ozone therapy

And asking for our DNA to deliver better skincare

I would love to see more healthy aging content on TikTok for what it’s worth

This is really cool: Sony is working with a laser company to make more accessible cameras for people with vision problems

And AirPods could one day be an FDA-approved hearing device

A STAT investigation found that health insurance companies are using unregulated algorithms to decide when they can deny a senior’s medical care

Is your self-care ritual actually working?

Nessie tested and approved header with a beige recovery sandal

Modeled after the ever-popular shower shoe but designed to cloak your feet in cushioned comfort, recovery sandals are an increasingly appealing footwear option.

As is the case with a lot of things, the COVID-19 pandemic is responsible (at least somewhat). More people started complaining about heel pain in the spring of 2020, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association. This past spring, The New York Times published a piece showing the myriad ways the pandemic has been rough on our feet.

Our reviewer spent a month testing six of the top-rated recovery sandals. First, she wore herself out with a road run lasting between three and 10 miles. Then, she wore the sandals while prepping dinner, chasing after her toddler, tooling around the house, and walking outside.

Find out what her favorite recovery sandals are >>
