The two-year infrastructure deployment on Block Island has been successfully completed after overcoming many challenges, including environmental issues, historic preservation, permitting, logistics, and weather.
We are incredibly proud of our dedicated teams who overcame adverse conditions including rough seas, blizzards and hurricanes, and moved the project forward through two crowded tourist seasons. Add to that staffing and supply issues tied to the pandemic, and the reality of BroadbandBI is an even more remarkable achievement.
Now that aerial and underground crews and equipment have left the island, customer experience testing is underway. Long-awaited end user subscriptions are expected to open for the first FSA in a few short weeks.
Sertex will continue to support Block Island as the network operator through a 10-year agreement with the Town of New Shoreham. Over the coming months, on-island crews will install service equipment, connect new customers to the backbone, install fiber drops from multiport terminals to service locations, and work with the ISP and transport provider to monitor network performance.
