UPCOMING UFP EVENTS

SAVE the DATE | APRIL 22

Planning for the 2023 Blue Horse Cafe has begun! If you've not yet had the pleasure of attending this event - it's like a coffee house/variety show that will become what we bring to it - including a Bake sale, a Book sale and a Silent Auction!

We'll need baked goods, books and silent auction items. Bring good books with a note tucked in with your name, so we know who's taking them home, if unsold. For auction items (art, functional items, experiences) include descriptive info, your name and suggested starting bid.

Please reach out to Stephanie Wildheart with any questions stephaniewildheart@outlook.com

SAVE the DATE | APRIL 30

NON-FICTION BOOK CLUB | MARCH

The Universal Christ
by Richard Rohr

Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr shares a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet.

After service coffee and tea makers!

We've been enjoying coffee, tea and sometimes cookies after service for the last few Sundays, through the dedication of volunteers who set up tables, made coffee and hot water, set out treats, and also cleaned up. Patricia Remy and Erica Nol are organising Coffee Hour until the end of the church year in June. The month of March is taken care of with many thanks to those volunteers!
We are now looking to fill volunteers for set up or clean up for 3 Sundays in April - 16th, 23rd and 30th.  You can volunteer for either set-up, clean-up or both. Please contact Erica if you are available. And many thanks in advance.

Building Stuff  ~ from Scott Donovan

Need a Lift? We are building a team of support people trained to operate the Lift. It is essential to have several people on the premises for every UFP event trained and ready to support people in accessing our beautiful new piece of equipment. Be proud and aware that our building is a first class, fully accessible facility. The operation of the Lift is simple, and the three golden rules of its use are a lesson in living well. You must take the training to receive the three golden rules.

Seeking a used large format monitor.  If you have an older TV, large format, 36” and up, that you're not using please consider donating to UFP. Ours failed. We'd love to have a replacement to support hybrid meetings in the Library.

The Universal Washroom. Like Universalism in the 1960’s, our new Universal Washroom on the lower level of our facility may be in decline unless more people become aware of it and embrace the prophetic truths it has to offer the world. It is found off the Lift vestibule, downstairs, accessed from the Lift or the door off the Lower Hall. To enter this magical kingdom, you do not just pull on the door. You press the special button and the kingdom opens to you. This is as it should be. Inside you will enjoy utter privacy and find all the necessary accoutrements that natures calls on you for. The new Universal washroom on the lower level of our building puts the second U into UUism in Peterborough. Halleluiah.

Refugee Sponsorship Steering Committee Update

We continue to make slow but steady progress with the sponsorship commitments made over the last few years. Most rewarding is the arrival of the Ousman family from Türkiye in February, 10 days after the devastating earthquake. This reunified a Syrian family after six years apart. UFP acted as cosponsor with the Mustafa family who had put up all the funds required and we acted as the Sponsorship Agreement Holder. The Mustafas are relieved to finally bring their family back together. Theirs is a grief filled story that will require a long healing process but as Syrian refugees they are well acquainted with suffering. They remain optimistic and determined to create a good life in this country which they love.

Nada Barawi, another Syrian who came to Peterborough in September after a rocky start in arriving to Canada, has made friends at NCC, settled into daily English classes and continues to be optimistic and enthusiastic about her future. Thanks to your generosity she has the resources needed to the end of her sponsorship in April.

We are awaiting more news of the Zaki family of eight from Afghanistan now living in Tajikistan in less than ideal conditions. Again your generous donations to sponsor this family has put us in a good financial position to give them a healthy first year start. We will definitely be calling out to the congregation for help in the settlement when we have an arrival date.
