Investor outreach in many communities
|
OSC in the Community takes the OSC’s mandate from Bay Street to Main Street. Investors, including newcomers and multicultural groups, can attend presentations about fraud prevention, investing 101 and the client-advisor relationship. This year, the OSC in the Community has hosted over 30 events with more than 800 attendees.
Working with partners such as the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex, Association of Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs, and Indus Community Services, we provide new Canadians and multicultural communities with information about fraud, saving and investing. Whistleblower successes
|
The OSC’s Whistleblower Program received tips that resulted in $9.33 million awarded to 11 whistleblowers. An update on the program, from 2016 to 2022, found whistleblower tips from around the globe led to enforcement action against 19 respondents. The Whistleblower Program is the first and only paid program of its kind run by a Canadian securities regulator.

Regulatory Updates & Initiatives
|
Here are some recent developments and publications:
- The OSC announced the updated membership of the Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee. The committee advises the Governance & Tribunal Secretariat on policy and procedural initiatives relating to the Capital Markets Tribunal.
- The CSA reminded capital market participants of upcoming deadline as they prepare to transition to SEDAR+ — launching on June 13, 2023. The new, web-based application is for all capital market participants to file, disclose and search for public documents and information filed by issuers in Canada in accordance with applicable securities legislation.
- Canadian securities regulators are warning Canadians of potentially misleading advice and fraudulent online investment opportunities and reminding them to research the claims before investing.

An important message in any language: check before you invest
|
The OSC brings its fraud prevention warnings to downtown Toronto with a digital billboard campaign at Yonge Dundas Square. The campaign includes a multilingual component – reminding people to Check Before You Invest — written in French, Chinese, Spanish, Urdu and Punjabi.
